DRILLBOOK

2022 Edition
WARM UP DRILLS

PASSING DRILLS
BALL HANDLING
TEAM BUILDING EXERCISES
TOUCHDOWN
Two teams, starting at the baseline. One team at one
end, the other at the opposite end.

The coach will throw a ball, and they will start

running.
The objective is to plant the ball at the other team's
end.
To do so, dribbling is not allowed, only passing and
cutting.

The normal dynamics of a game will be followed,

meaning, after planting the ball, the opposing team
takes it out from the baseline.
The first team to plant 4 balls wins the game.

SEMICIRCLE DRILL
Two teams of up to 4 players each. We will play
with one ball, with the goal of planting it in the
semicircle. Dribbling is not allowed; only passing
and working off the ball are allowed.

From there, we will add some rules:

Defense cannot be in the paint for more than 3
seconds.
Offense cannot be within the three-point line
for more than 5 seconds.

After planting the ball, the team that scores the

point can continue to attack.
Whenever there's a point or a change of
possession, the ball must be taken beyond the
three-point line, similar to 3x3 rules.
The first team to plant 4 times wins.
HULA HOOP
We will form two teams with an equal number of
players. Distribute 4 circles (hula hoops) on the
court, forming a diamond pattern among
themselves (see diagram).
The attacking team must successfully execute a
bounce pass that lands within one of these circles
and is caught by a teammate from the same
team. The defending team will attempt to prevent
this. If the bounce pass is successful, the
attacking team scores a point and continues
attacking without pause, with roles switching
constantly. Play to complete 4 successful bounce
passes.

PASS AND TAG

Assign numbers to players, from 1 to 10 if there are
10 players. Play with two basketballs.

Players will start running on the court. Coach

passes the ball to player number 1, who passes it to
player number 2, who must then attempt to tag
player number 3 before they receive the ball.
Number 10 pass to 1 and tag 2. The game could be
infinite

Always pass to the next number and try to tag a

player two numbers higher than your own. The first
player to successfully tag 3 people wins the
exercise.

PROTECT THE QUEEN

Divide players into teams of 3 and 4. One team will
be the defenders, and the other will be the
attackers. Place a cone with a ball on top and 4
circles surrounding it.

The defending team's goal is to keep the ball

outside of the circles. The attacking team must
pass the ball around, eventually touching the ball
placed on the center cone to knock it off. If the
defenders regain possession, they switch to the
attacking role. The round is won after 5 touches
on the central ball.
POSITION SWITCHING
One player with the ball stands in the center of
the circle. The rest of the players each stand by a
cone with a ball.

The cones are evenly spaced and equidistant

from the center. The objective for the attacking
players is to establish visual contact with a player
from a different cone and switch places before
the center player reaches an unoccupied cone. If
the center player arrives first, the outer player
switches roles. A player who successfully switches
cones 7 times without going through the center
wins the exercise.

BLIND SPOT

Put a player in the center of the court with a ball.

Other players surround the center player, each
also holding a ball.

Each player is assigned a cone, evenly spaced

from one another. The goal for each player is to
complete a full circle around the center and
return to their starting cone before a teammate
does.

Players must switch cones without alerting the

center person. If the center player detects a
cone-to-cone switch or sees someone not at a
cone, they call out the person's name, and that
player must return to their starting cone.
DISASSOCIATION HEXAGON
Arrange 6 cones in a hexagonal shape between
the three-point line and half-court. Divide into
teams of 3/4 players.

The same exercise can be conducted on two

courts. Upon the signal, a representative from
each team will proceed. They must maneuver
through three non-adjacent cones using only one
dribble (and any necessary pivots) before
attempting a shot. They switch dribbling hands at
each cone. The first to make a shot scores a point
for their team.

PIRATES AND SHARKS

Place circles (hoops) and small cones all over the
court. More cones mean a longer exercise. Create
two teams with an equal number of players.

The pirates aim to collect as many "treasures"

(cones) as possible and place them inside the
circles while dribbling the ball. The sharks can
only tag the pirates and cannot remove cones
from the circles. If a pirate is tagged, they must
make a free throw.

After a round, roles switch. The team that

retrieves the treasures in less time wins.

EMPIRE STATE
Players with basketballs start on the baseline.
Arrange 4 square clusters of cones, each with
progressively smaller spaces inside. Players
dribble out on your signal.

The objective is to touch an opponent's ball while

avoiding having your ball touched. Upon touching
a ball, you advance to the next space. Players
must score after leaving the last square.

The first player to score 3 baskets wins.

TIC-TAC-TOE
An adaptation of the classic tic-tac-toe game.
Form two teams, each with a basketball, and
place 9 cones as shown in the diagram. The first
three players from each team hold a pinnie (vest)
that acts as a game piece.

Upon entering the court, they place the pinnie on

a cone to create a vertical, horizontal, or diagonal
line of three. When the first player returns
dribbling, they high-five and the second player
goes.

The fourth player plays without a pinnie and can

move one of the game pieces on the board.

SPACE SHIPS
Divide players into groups of 4. Each group has
one basketball.

Three players join hands, forming a circle around

the fourth player, who dribbles the ball. The
fourth player dribbles toward the basket, with the
others running around them.

The entire group must contribute to making a

basket. The first group to do so wins the round.
THE CONE GAME
A competition played in pairs. Each pair has a cone,
and each player has a basketball. Players stand one
behind the other.

The coach calls out different instructions ("switch

positions in front, behind, underneath, sit down, pass
the ball...") until shouting "CONE." The first player to
pick up the center cone scores 1 point. The coach can
introduce commands like "right," "left," and "switch,"
causing players to rotate to the sides.

BASEBALL
Two teams: shooters and runners. Place 4 bases
around the shooting area as shown in the diagram.
The shooting team waits at midcourt. A shooter
throws from the central three-point line.

The running team starts from beneath the basket.

When the shooter releases the ball, the runner can
advance to a base and keep switching bases until the
shooter scores. After scoring, the ball is quickly
passed to the next shooter.

If a runner doesn't reach a base, they're out.

Completing a full circuit scores 1 point. Roles switch
when all shooters have taken a shot.

EVEN AND ODD

Socio-affective dribbling warm-up. All players start
from mid-court, and there are two cones placed 3m
apart on both sides.

The coach will call out a mathematical operation

aloud. If the result is even, players will dribble to the
cone on their left using only one dribble (hand-foot
separation) and return to the center.

If the result is odd, they will dribble to the right cone. If

they make a mistake or take longer than 3 seconds,
they lose one of their three lives.
DEFENSIVE
FUNDAMENTALS

1on1 DEFENSE
DEFENSE WITHOUT THE BALL
DEFENSIVE REBOUND
DEFENSIVE PROGRESSION
We pair up players with similar positions and physical
attributes. We spread out across the court. One ball
for the attacker. We'll do 3/4 repetitions of each
phase, with rounds lasting 10 seconds.

1. Without Dribbling: Attacker can only pivot. In 10

seconds, the defender must force a struggle or
touch the ball twice.
2. Restricted Space: Attacker has less than 2 square
meters to dribble, avoiding losing the ball. In 10
seconds, the defender must tip the ball or touch it
twice.
3. Live Dribble: Near the basket, the goal is to attack
it. The attacker has 10 seconds to score, starting
from a triple-threat position. If they score, they
repeat the attack.

open court

Pairs work together, one ball per pair. We'll start by giving
the ball to the defender. The defender intentionally throws
the ball off the backboard for the attacker to grab the
rebound and start the exercise.

The attacker has 5 seconds to cross the defensive half. If

they fail, the defender wins. If they succeed, they can
continue attacking in the offensive half.

Defensive techniques: Arm separation, deny the center,

challenge hand switch, safe defensive fakes, deflect the
ball from below, orient towards the sideline...
AVOID THE MID-COURT
Players pair up and start from mid-court. They begin
on one side of the center, facing the basket.

The attacker has the ball. The attacker has 7 seconds

to attack the basket, while the defender's goal is to
prevent the attack from entering the paint. If the
attacker manages to step into the paint, they earn 1
point. If they score without entering the paint, they get 1
point, and if they score while in the paint, they earn 2
points.

INTRODUCTION TO CLOSEOUT
Defender with the ball at the opposite high post to the
attacker. Attacker positioned at a 45-degree angle,
and coach without the ball, parallel to the defender.
Additional players are ready to rotate and expedite
the exercise.

The defender passes to the coach and diagonally

defends, performing a closeout to prevent the
attacker from passing. The coach passes to the
attacker, who receives in a stationary position (no
cutting) and decides whether to shoot, use a counter-
move, or drive hard. The defender aims to prevent the
basket through physical contact and by preventing
the attack from entering the paint.

DEFENSIVE RECOVERY
Place a cone at the low post opposite to the ball.
Player with the ball defended, at a 45-degree angle
relative to the cone. Passers in the corners and at a
45-degree angle to the ball.

The player with the ball drives towards the center to

pass to the corner. As the ball is passed, the defender
loops around the cone, following the ball, and then
closes out on the initial attacker. The ball travels from
the corner to the 45-degree position and back to the
starting point, where a 1x1 situation unfolds.
BALL SIDE DEFENSE

Attacker with the ball at a 45-degree angle. Attacker

passes to the coach positioned at the center of the
three-point line. Defender stands on the passing lane
with the arm nearest to the ball extended, touching
the imaginary line between the ball and the off-ball
attacker.

The coach attempts to pass the ball to the off-ball

attacker, who has 5 seconds to receive and 5 seconds
to finish. The count is kept by the coach. The attacker
can only receive on the same side of the court where
the exercise began.

They can work to receive with contact or play from the

backdoor. If the defender is unprepared or there's a
significant physical advantage, the attacker can
receive within the paint.

LANE DEFENSE

Attacker with the ball between a 45-degree angle and

the corner, defended. Two passers, one in each corner,
without the ball. Begin by passing the ball to the
nearest passer. From that point, the attacker can
receive and finish.

The attacker can cross the imaginary half-court line to

receive on the opposite side from where they started.
When they cross the center line, the passer switches to
the other passer. As a pass is made, the defender
slightly adjusts their position to always have their arm
nearest the ball extended, facing the attacker, and
their back towards the basket.
WEAK TO BALL SIDE
FLine of attackers in the corner and the opposite 45-
degree angle. The first player at the 45-degree angle
does not have the ball; the rest do. The defender
begins at the mid-post, parallel to the 45-degree
attacker, in a weak side help position.

The 45-degree attacker without the ball initiates a cut

to receive from the corner. The defender shadows the
attacker as they move toward the ball side. Once the
attacker receives, a 1x1 situation ensues. The passer
becomes the attacker, receiving this time from the
player with the ball at the 45-degree angle.

2x2 STRONG SIDE / WEAK SIDE

Two attackers positioned at a 45-degree angle, one
with the ball. Both are defended. In the center,
parallel to the basket, there's a passer who starts
without the ball. The attacker with the ball passes to
the center. With each pass, the defense adjusts. We'll
work on three types of defense:

1. On-ball defense
2. Passing lane defense. Ball in the center
3. Weak side help defense. Drop down to the high
post when the ball is on the opposite 45-degree
angle (pack line) After the second pass, the offense
can pass or attack.

DEFENSIVE COVERAGE
Two defended attackers, one at the center and the
other at a 45-degree angle, one with the ball. The
ball starts at the center and is passed to the 45-
degree attacker after a dribble. As the dribble
happens, the 45-degree defender feints slightly and
then re-engages with their attacker. The same
exchange happens in reverse until the third pass, at
which point the offense is free to steal. In a defense
without the ball, the goal is to help the on-ball
defender prevent being beaten. This involves
placing a hand near the ball to disrupt without fully
committing, then returning to on-ball defense.
SUMO

Place a loose ball ("balón suelto" at the diagram)

at mid-post. A resting player without a ball
stands at the three-point line (Player 1 in black).
The attacking player (Player 1) is positioned at
mid-court. The defender (x1) is right against the
attacking player. The objective for the attacker is
to grab the loose ball on the ground.

The defender will try to prevent it, either head-on

or with their back turned. The attacker has 5
seconds to grab the ball (the resting player keeps
count). Once the ball is captured, it's passed to
the resting player, who takes a shot. The
defender boxes out for the rebound.

TAPPING AND BOXING OUT

Three attackers at the free-throw line and both

sides of the paint (1, 2, 3). Three defenders
positioned 3m away from them (x1, x2, x3). Three
resting players (black) are present to keep the
exercise dynamic.

Coach with the ball, facing the backs of the

defenders (C). The coach passes to one of the
three attackers, who shoots upon receiving. The
defense, upon seeing the ball pass over them,
must close out and attempt to block the rebound
when the shot goes up.
RUNNING BOX OUT
Three attackers at the free-throw line and both
sides of the paint (1, 2, 3). Three defenders
positioned 1m away from them (x1, x2, x3). Coach
with the ball in one corner of the paint (C).

The coach makes a throw. Players communicate

"SHOT" and rotate clockwise when the ball leaves
the coach's hands. Each player will go to block the
nearest attacker in a clockwise direction.
Offensive rebound = 2 points / Defensive rebound
= 1 point. First to 9 points wins (team game:
defend / rest / attack).

FACING AND BOXING OUT

Line of shooters between the 45-degree angle and
the corner. Defender at the free-throw line, facing
the shooter. Line of attackers at the center of the
three-point line.

The shooter starts the shot. As they begin their

motion, an attacker sprints out. The defender
squares up and rotates to block the rebound. If
there's an offensive rebound, the attack
continues. If there's a defensive rebound, a new
shooter takes over, and the player who attempted
the block moves to block the next player in the
attacking line. Rotation: shot, block attempt.

4X4 BOXING OUT

Attackers at the 45-degree angles and corners.
Defenders at the high and low posts. Coach with the
ball at the central three-point line.

The defenders start rotating clockwise until the

coach passes to an open shooter and calls out the
name of one of the defenders. That defender then
closes out to block the rebound for the shooter. The
other three defenders block the nearest attackers.
Option to work on rebounding and fast break.
OFFENSIVE
FUNDAMENTALS

FINISHING DRILLS
ATTACKING THE CLOSEOUT
CONTESTED SHOOTING DRILLS
WINNING SHOULDER

1x1 exercise.
Central or 45-degree position. The attacker starts
with the ball and the defender closely guarding,
with their shoulder opposite to the ball in front of
the attacker's shoulder.

When the attacker decides to drive, the defender

must fight to get between the player and the
basket. The attacker uses their non-ball shoulder
to maintain the initial advantage of being ahead of
the defender.

BALL AT THE BACK

1x1 exercise.
Central or 45-degree position. Defender facing the
basket. Attacker with the ball positioned against
the back of the defender. Attacker is in a crouched
position, ready to start.

When the attacker takes the ball from behind the

defender, the exercise begins. The attacker can go
either way. The defender reacts when they no
longer feel the ball against their back. The
attacker should use their non-ball hand (off hand)
to keep the advantage. Fakes are prohibited.
BALL AT WAIST
1x1 exercise.
Central or 45-degree position. The defender can
choose the starting side. They can either face the
nearest sideline or, conversely, face towards the
center.

The attacker will start with the ball against the

defender's waist. When the attacker takes the ball,
the defender is allowed to move. Not before. The
attacker can choose to drive to the desired side,
including faking and elevating for a shot.

CENTRAL HAND OFF

1x1 exercise.
A line of ball carriers at the center of the three-
point line. A line of attackers on the opposite 45-
degree angle, waiting to attack. The first attacker
in line starts without the ball. The defender starts
by dribbling the ball and then hands it off to the
attacking player.

Once they hand off, the defender goes through

the cones in the middle. When the attacker
receives the ball, they go towards the basket to
finish. The receiver should use the closest zero
pivot to gain an advantage in the hand-off
situation.

PAPER ROCK SCISSORS

1x1 exercise.
The coach stands between two players with a
ball. There are two players, one on the coach's
right and the other on the coach's left. The coach
will offer the ball to the two players.

Upon the coach's signal, the two players must

show either rock, paper, or scissors. Rock beats
scissors, scissors beats paper, and paper beats
rock. The winner becomes the attacker, and the
loser becomes the defender. Quick reaction is
required to grab the ball.
1x1 WITH THREE PASSES
Line of basketballs at the center of the three-point
line. Attacking-defending pairs positioned at a 45-
degree angle. Another attacker in the opposite 45-
degree angle.

The first 1x1 situation starts with a pass from the

center. As soon as the shot is taken, the attacker
will defend the opposite side. The defender collects
the ball and goes to the center. After the
attacker's shot, the passer from the center
receives the ball, passes it again, and then returns
it to the waiting attacker.

At this point, the defender performs a closeout,

and the attacker must read it: pass and go
opposite if there's a counter-step, or drive if there's
too much space. If there's an open area, exploit it
with off-ball cuts.

EXTRA PASS TRIANGLE

A very simple 1x1 drill to read the defense in

transition. Place an attacking player in the corner
and another at the 45-degree angle. The defender
will be positioned between the high post and low
post, facing the attackers.

The coach will act as the passer and choose which

of the two attackers to pass the ball to. Just as the
pass is made, the coach will indicate the direction
of the pass (right or left) to help the defender. The
defender will close out and try to prevent the
attacker's progress.
1X1 CONTINUOUS CLOSEOUT
A 1x1 drill for a maximum of 6 players. If the
number exceeds 6, it's recommended to play with
fewer players or use two different baskets. Line
up players in the middle of the three-point line.
One player with the ball is defended by another
player.

After each round, the attacker becomes the

defender and closes out on the next player in line,
while the defender rebounds to pass to the next
attacker.

2x2 CENTRAL CLOSEOUT

Organize a minimum of 6 players in pairs. Begin
with one pair attacking from both 45-degree
angles. The coach passes the ball to the
attackers. Defenders perform closeouts. Play
freely until there's a change of possession. At this
point, the rotation becomes Attack / Rest /
Defend.

The resting players (blue) enter to perform

closeouts on the defenders (red) who were
attacking, and then they attack after regaining
possession. Upon regaining possession, they pass
to the coach and receive the ball at the 45-degree
angle.

2x2 LATERAL CLOSEOUT

Divide into two teams: red and blue. The red team
always starts from the right, and the blue team
rotates to the left. The coach stands in the middle.
Two red players start in the high and low posts
(attackers), and two blue players start in the
corner and 45-degree angle (defenders).

As the red players move to receive the ball, the

blue players pivot around the high and low posts
and perform closeouts. After defending, the blue
team moves to the right high and low posts to
start attacking against the waiting red players.
SANDWITCH

The defender starts with the ball at the center of

the three-point line. The attacker starts without
the ball at the free-throw line, facing the player
with the ball. When the defender decides, they
bounce the ball (starting on the dribble) and move
to touch the free-throw line.

The attacker retrieves the ball to take a shot upon

receiving it, or they have a maximum of one dribble
to execute a shot. The defender, after touching the
free-throw line, rushes to contest the shot.

TWO-BALL SANDWITCH

The defender starts by bouncing two balls at the

center of the three-point line. The attacker stands
at the free-throw line. When the attacker decides,
they rush to pick up one of the balls from the
defender.

The defender leaves one ball bouncing and, with

the other ball in hand, moves to touch the free-
throw line to contest the shot. The attacker has
only one dribble to create a shot after picking up
the ball. If the shot is successful, the exercise ends.

If it misses, the defender (now the attacker) picks

up the remaining ball, steps out of the three-point
line, and the original defender touches the free-
throw line. The attacker has two dribbles to create
a shot.
PLANT THE CONE
The attacker starts outside the three-point line,
dribbling the ball with one hand and holding a
cone in the other. The defender starts behind
them.

The attacker must plant the cone in the desired

space outside the paint. They must leave the cone
standing; otherwise, they don't earn a point if they
score. The defender rushes to pick up the cone
and then contests the shot immediately after. The
attacker is allowed one dribble to gain space
after planting the cone.

CONTESTED PULL UP

Place cones one meter apart. The defender with

the ball is positioned between the two cones. The
defender decides when to pass the ball and which
cone to fake around.

The attacker receives the pass and takes one

dribble before shooting. After faking, the defender
can contest the shot. The attacker is not allowed
to step into the painted area.

Adjust the cones if there's a significant offensive

advantage.

AROUND THE CHAIR

Place two chairs 2 meters apart at the free-throw
line. The coach stands at the center of the three-
point line with the ball.

The defender positions themselves between the

chairs, and the attacker stands in front of the
coach. The attacker taps the defender's back and
then rushes to shoot after receiving a pass from
the coach. The defender goes around the same
chair and contests the shot.
OFFENSIVE TEAM
DRILLS

FASTBREAK
SUPERIORITIES / HANDICAPS
SMALL SIDED GAMES
INFINITE DIAGONALS
The wing player (2) receives a diagonal pass from 1 and
passes to 3 for the finish. As 1 passes, they move to the
wing to assume the role of 2.

The player who finishes (3) positions themselves under

the basket with the ball. After 2 has passed to 3, they
take their turn and move to their nearest cone after
passing.

They then receive a pass and finish on the opposite

side of the hoop. This exercise is designed for a
minimum of 6 players.

THREE COURTS

We begin with a player near the ball (4) and another

in the far cone lane (5).

The ball-handler (1) passes to 4 and immediately cuts

around a parallel cone. 4 receives the pass and
passes on the run to 5, who finishes and moves
behind 2 in line. Player 1 retrieves the ball from 2, and
4 takes the finishing lane.

Player 1 crosses the court to pass to 4 for the finish.

After passing, 1 takes the finishing lane to complete
the third lane.
AUSTRALIA
A fast-break and finishing drill. Three players start,
with the one in the middle having the ball. After
passing and replacing, the initial passer finishes.

The other two players finish with a shot or drive.

They receive passes from the corner players. If a
pass comes from the right, the receiver collects the
corner-right pass. If the pass comes from the left,
they receive from the left corner.

The players who passed from the corners initiate

the next round along with the center player, who
rebounds the missed shot.

PISTONS 2x2
Two teams, one at each baseline, except for the first
two pairs who start in the center of the court.

After the initial 2x2, the team that shot or lost

possession transitions to defense. The player who
regained possession passes to their defensive
teammate, who then passes to one of the players
running the sideline. Rotation is simple: attack-defend-
rest.

Resting players never switch ends.

PISTONS 3x3
Similar to the previous exercise, but starting with
a 3x3 setup.

After this 3x3 sequence, the rebounder can pass

to any of the three players running from the
baseline to start the next attack.

After defending, the players line up at the

baseline, and the previous attackers transition to
defense.
3x2 + 1 TOUCHing hands

The ball-handler is at a 45-degree angle (1). A

defender (x1) is in front, and two help defenders
are on the opposite side.

Behind the ball-handler is a coach (C). The coach

initiates the drill by showing one hand. If the left
hand is shown (red), the defender claps it before
recovering to defense.

The ball-handler then starts from the opposite

side. If the right hand is shown (blue), the attacker
goes left.

3x3 BALL IN THE AIR

The defender starts with the ball at the center of

the three-point line.

Behind them, an attacker stands ready. A player

pairs with each corner. The defending player
throws the ball to one side of the court and then
sprints to touch the other side (symmetry).

When the center attacker sees the ball thrown,

they run to retrieve it and initiate a 3x2 attack until
the player who threw the ball rejoins the defense.
4x2 EXTRA PASS
Four attackers, positioned in both corner and 45-
degree positions. The two defenders start with one
holding the ball at free-throw line height.

The defender without the ball starts in the

defensive semicircle position or below the rim if no
semicircle is present. The defender with the ball
initiates the drill by passing to one of the four
attackers. The attackers can't move, cut, or
exchange positions. Their only options are to pass
the ball or take a shot if a clear opportunity arises.

4x3 HALF COURT

Add a third defender to the previous exercise. This

time, attackers can dribble upon receiving the
ball, enabling them to drive, create, and finish.

After the third pass, attackers can cut and switch

positions. Attackers have 9 seconds to attempt a
shot. Offensive rebounds are allowed.

4x4 WEAK SIDE ROTATION

A resting player with the ball (or coach) is
positioned 8 meters from the hoop at the center (1
in black).

Two players at 45-degree angles and two in the

corners. A coach stands between a corner and
the 45-degree spot.

The coach displays one arm, and the nearest

defender touches it before joining the defense.
The offense must adjust while the defense
reorganizes. The player with the ball (1 in black)
can pass to any teammate.
PASS AND CUT UNDER PRESSURE

The coach holds the ball at the center, facing away

from the attacker. A defender stands actively in front,
ready to contest.

When the coach passes to the attacker, they quickly

choose a side and cut around one of the cones to
receive a pass. The defender has to take a longer
route around the cone and try to anticipate the cut.

The attacker cannot dribble after receiving the ball.

LATERAL AND CORNER 2x2

The coach has the ball at the middle of the three-

point line. Attackers form a line at a 45-degree
angle.

Another line of attackers forms at the opposite

corner. The initial players from each line are the
defenders for the first round.

After working off the ball, they receive a pass and

play a 2x2. After the attack, they quickly switch to
defend the next pair of attackers in both lines.

Defenders collect rebounds and pass to their

defensive partner, who then passes the ball to the
coach.
SMALL SIDE OFFENSE 3X3
We will play with two wing positions and one
interior. Occupied 45-degree angle, a post, and
corner with the ball.

Therefore, we start using only 1/3 of the court. In

the other third, we have another team waiting. A
coach in the center will start with the ball. We can
work on the concept that interests us the most in
3x3: ball to the post, direct or indirect screens...
When the defense grabs the rebound, they will
pass to the coach, and the previous attackers will
go to defend the opposite court. After passing,
defenders get ready to attack the other side.

CONTINUOUS HALF-COURT 3X3

We will need a group of 12 players. It can also be
done with 2x2 (8 players). There will be two teams,
divided into trios in both cases. Three rows: one in
the center, and two on the sides. The first 3x3
game will be played, blues against reds.

If there is an offensive rebound, blues will

continue attacking. If there is a defensive
rebound, reds will pass the ball to the other red
trio that is waiting to attack from a mid-court
position. The blues who attacked will go up to
defend.

4x4 PIN DOWN

Exercise to work on off-ball screens. There will be
4 attacking players positioned in both corners and
the 45-degree angle, defended.

The attackers cannot cut without the ball, only

play 1x1 or set up indirect screen situations. Every
time there is a horizontal pass (from 45 to 45), the
passer will set an indirect vertical screen for the
corner player (pin down).
DEFENSIVE TEAM
DRILLS

DEFENSIVE ROTATION
DEFENSIVE BALANCE
3x2 + 1 LAST
Coach with the ball in a 45-degree position.
Attackers in both corners, and a third attacker at
the opposite 45-degree angle to the ball. All
defended. The coach offers the ball and the other
free hand.

They can offer the ball from the baseline or the

center. Attacker receives the ball and attacks.
Defender makes contact with the coach's hand
and defends. From this point on, it's free play.
Important to communicate and rotate defensively
if the attacker gains an advantage on the drive.

Last Help Rotation

Ball to the low post defender. Attacker at the 45-

degree angle. Matchups attack-defense at 45
degrees and opposite corner to the ball.

When the attacker receives, they decide whether

to attack through the center or the baseline.

Ball defender closes out and arrives to defend.

Weak side interprets and executes Gap and Last
roles. From this moment on, it's free play.
CHAIR GAME
Two chairs placed 9-10m from the basket. Coach
with the ball at the center of the 6.75m line.
Attackers at both 45-degree angles and corners.
Defenders at both high and low posts. Coach
passes to any of the attackers, who CAN go around
one of the chairs.

If they do, the defender must pass behind the

same chair. This creates a 4x3 situation, and the
defense must react. On change of possession, ball
goes to the coach and without stopping, the game
continues. It only stops when a basket is made.

SHELL DRILL
Two attackers at the 45-degree angles and two in the
corners. Defenders positioned at the high and low posts
respectively. The coach starts with the ball in the part of
the court they choose. The coach passes the ball to the
desired attacker. Defenders have 4 defensive roles: Ball,
First Help, Help Defender, Last Help.

Each time there's a pass, they change their defensive role.

Attackers can only dribble to improve passing angles.
They cannot make cuts. Upon the coach's signal, after a
minimum of 3 passes, the free play begins.

LEAVE AND RETURN

12 players. Team 1. Team 2 - Team 3 Attack / Defense / Rest

Team 1 attacks, team 2 defends, and team 3 starts off the

court, offering a hand. Coach passes to the attacker. When
received, defenders can abandon their task and go high-five
someone from team 3. If they do, they score 1 point. Each
player can be high-fived only once.

When they're high-fived, they're out. If the attack doesn't

score, the defense scores as many points as hands they've
high-fived. If the attack scores, they add the two or three
points from the basket, and defense doesn't add points for
high-fiving. Play to 9 points.
3x2 + Half-Court
Three players from one team attacking with the
ball in the defensive half-court. Two defenders
balance from the three-point line. A third defender
positioned in mid-court. The attackers will run to
play the 3x2.

On the first pass into the offensive half-court or the

second dribble by the ball-handler, the mid-court
player enters. After the 3x2+1, when the defending
team regains the ball, they pass it to their waiting
teammates in the backcourt. The attackers
balance defensively, except for the shooter (or the
one who lost the ball). The third defender enters
from mid-court.

3x3 Defensive Activation

Two teams of five players. Three members of one

team start attacking, one of them with the ball.

Three members of the other team start defending.

Two members of each team start beside the cones
placed 9m from the rim. They start on the opposite
court side of where their team is attacking. The
player who finishes the offensive action continues
defending.

The two players who haven't finished yet, high-five

their teammates positioned on both sides and then
go out to balance defensively. The previous
attackers go to the sidelines.
4x3 Quick Outlet
Start with a 4x4. Attack runs a team play, with
positioned defenders, but without them intervening
(passive defense).

When there's a shot (must go in), the scorer goes

around one of the two corner cones.

The attackers quickly outlet the ball, following the

fast break rules of the team, and taking advantage
of the 4x3 situation created while the scorer is
going around the cone, before rejoining the
defense.

4x3 Passer Steps Line

Start with 4 attackers spread between the corners.
Defenders right in front, about 4 meters away. A
defender has the ball and passes to one of the 4
attackers.

After passing, this player must step on the baseline

before rejoining the defense.

The attack quickly outlets, following the team's fast

break rules, and taking advantage of the
advantage created while the fourth defender
hasn't rejoined the defense yet.

4x3 Planted Ball

Shell Drill setup. Two attackers in corners, two
attackers at 45-degree angles. Defenders at the
posts.

Play 4x4 half-court with active defense until the

coach blows the whistle. If not, the attack can
attempt a basket.

When the whistle blows, the attacker with the ball

plants it on the ground and goes around the cone
located at mid-court sides. Attackers quickly
retrieve it and take advantage until they rejoin the
defense.

7-6-5
Two groups with the same number of players.
One ball per every 2 players. The game is played
to be the first to score 7 three-pointers, and once
achieved, the round is won. Immediately, without
stopping the exercise, both teams switch baskets
to score one less three-pointer than in the
previous round.

And so on, shooting and switching baskets, until

only 1 three-pointer is scored. When a team wins
a round, scores reset, and both teams switch
baskets. The group with the most round wins
takes the exercise.

Countdown
Individual exercise. The coach sets a time to make
a certain number of shots, with different difficulty
and positions.

Example: 45 seconds to make 7 layups. You must

switch sides after every two shots. If the player
succeeds, they sit in the middle of the court.

If they fail, they do a small penalty imposed by the

winners of the round. Play as many rounds as
desired, varying time and shot/finishing type.

THE STREAK
The entire team competes together. Ideal for
ending a training session. Two lines of players at
each low post, all without the ball except the first
one in one of the lines.

There will be 3 rounds: low post, high post, and

three-pointer. The first player without the ball will
move from the low post to the center to finish.
Group streak of 7 shots. When they achieve it, a
group streak of 5 coming from the high post. Later,
a group streak of 3 three-pointers coming from the
45-degree angle.
