Review of a Erin Carlson’s biography of Meryl Streep ‘Queen Meryl: The Iconic Roles,
Heroic Deeds, And Legendary Life of Meryl Streep”

I decided to write a review of a book about Meryl Streep, who is actually my favorite actress
and definitely has a special place in my heart with so many amazing roles and dozens of
films she appeared in. When I saw the task in the book I immediately knew I was going to
write about this biography, because I have read it recently and really liked it.
Firstly, let’s talk about the title, which made a good impression on me when I first saw it, as I
regard Meryl Streep to be the most iconic actress of our time and I believe the title ‘Queen’ is
suited for her. Then we have the rest of the title, which gives a good idea what’s the book
about.
This book was a Christmas gift from my aunt, who really knows me well. It inspired me to
start what I call ‘Meryl Streep challenge’. Its essence is basically the goal to watch all her
roles, in every film she has ever starred in. That is really challenging and I made a list, so far
I’m halfway through.
Now I’m going to focus on what the book is about. It starts with an introduction in which the
author tells the anecdote of a time when a producer De Laurentiis told his son in Italian she
is ugly and she replied in fluent Italian that she’s sorry she isn’t pretty enough. Then we have
19 chapters, each is named ‘Meryl-something’, for example ‘Meryl the mother’ or ‘Meryl
superhero’. The first chapter tells the story of her childhood, after that each chapter tells
about a different film she appeared in from ‘Kramer vs. Kramer’, ‘Sophie’s Choice’ ‘Silkwood’
to ‘Out of Africa’,

Carlson and seems interesting. Her newsletter about popculture is really cool, can
recommend it.
