What is Persuasion

Persuasion is the act of trying to convince others of your


views, beliefs and thoughts about someone or something.
Therefore, Persuasive Writing is writing to persuade others
of your views, beliefs and thoughts about someone or
something, using persuasive techniques.
 

Techniques of Persuasion

Logical Thinking - this involves basing your thoughts on the


observation of facts and evidence then drawing conclusions
from the facts and evidence.

Use of Connectives - this involves using words and phrases


which connect thoughts. This makes it easier for the reader
to move from one idea to another.

Rhetorical Question – this is a question which requires no


answer as it is asked for dramatic effect to make a point.

Rhetoric and Rhetorical Devices - Rhetoric is the method of


persuading using Rhetorical Devices. Rhetorical Devices are
the Literary Devices used in writing. Some include sarcasm,
irony and repetition. Rhetorical Devices are highly effective
in writing to persuade.
