theory

Knowledge of career development theory goes hand-in-hand with


transition planning because career development theory provides
stakeholders with a timeline to gauge where a child is developmentally
in relation to students; helps professionals interpret assessment data by
knowing what should and should not be expected of a child at a certain
age; and helps guard against setting unrealistic expectations for students
(e.g., thinking a student should make a career choice when that student is
still learning about his or her own skills and interests).
