Brief Details About Project
1. Project Summary/Introduction
Today in the fast growing world, on one hand the data is increasing in an
exponential rate and on the other hand the margin of error as well as time is
decreasing drastically. In this situation a task to be accomplished in a manual
way is bit riskier. Instead the common man or any organization per say tends to
prefer the automatic way in order to complete the task in time and with much
more accuracy. Following the trend comes the Live Attendance System, which
is an enhancement in traditional manual way of marking the attendance
This Project propose a Live Attendance Marking System for institutional
purpose. This system will enable the department to mark the attendance of
students automatically by recognizing their faces. The system is based on the
face detection and recognition algorithms and automatically recognizes a
student whenever he/she comes across the camera module. Further after the
recognition it automatically updates his/her attendance in the database. The
basic architecture and all the algorithms used in the model are described in the
paper elaborately. Moreover in order to evaluate and enhance the performance
of the system many of the filter functions are used which provide the capability
to capture and recognize the images even in dull and low light places. The live
attendance system is much more efficient to traditional attendance systems both
in saving time and in maintaining the database.
The manual way of marking the attendance is a time consuming process and its
performance degrades with the enormous amount of data. The Live Attendance
System is much preferable as it saves the time and reduces the complexity of
the system. In our model we are using the biometric based attendance system to
mark the attendance of the students automatically by detecting and recognizing
their faces. The system consists of creating the dataset of images, followed by
training the dataset and finally detecting the person next time he comes across
the camera module of the system. Further the system is linked with the database
of the students. The system has the capability to automatically update the
attendance of a student once he/she gets recognized.
2. Proposed Goals/Objectives
Automated attendance system for institutions using image processing algorithms
and techniques with deep learning .
3. Problem Description
Attendance is an important part of daily classroom evaluation. At the
beginning and ending of class, it is usually checked by the teacher, but it
may appear that a teacher may miss someone or some students answer
multiple times. Face recognition-based attendance system is a problem of
recognizing face for taking attendance by using face recognition technology
based on image processing and other information technology.
The concept of face recognition is to give a computer system the ability of
finding and recognizing human faces fast and precisely in images or videos.
Numerous algorithms and techniques have been developed for improving
the performance of face recognition. Recently Deep learning has been
highly explored for computer vision applications. Human brain can
automatically and instantly detect and recognize multiple faces. But when it
comes to computer, it is very difficult to do all the challenging tasks on the
level of human brain. The face recognition is an integral part of biometrics.
In biometrics, basic traits of human are matched to the existing data. Facial
features are extracted and implemented through algorithms, which are
efficient and some modifications are done to improve the existing algorithm
models. The face recognition system generally involves two stages:
• Face Detection – where the input image is searched to find any face,
then image processing
cleans up the facial image for easier recognition.
• Face Recognition – where the detected and processed face is
compared to the database of known faces to decide who that person
is.
5. Feasibility Study
With above defined scope, we would be able to meet our project schedule.
1. Risks Involved:
The quality of the reference image plays an important role in the
identification process. If the resolution of the said image is not high
enough, it can cause cameras to be tricked into believing that the
person being scanned is not the same as in the photo.
Many non-premium facial recognition systems cannot account for
faces that are captured at angles other than straight into the capturing
camera. The disadvantage of this is that it makes the attendance
marking process slower and less efficient.
2. Resource Requirement: Camera , laptop
