ABSTRACT :
Maryland Apparels Limited, Bangalore is a large scale garment manufacturing firm basically dealing in exports. Various internationally renowned brands order at Maryland Apparels because of their high quality products. Mr. Arvind Mohan, the Factory Manager is involved in smuggling original and expensive trims from the unit and selling out to other industries in large volumes. He, in turn, replaces the originals with cheap fake items. The reason being, the Managing Director, Mr.Vasanth did not promote him to the post of the General Manager which has been vacant since the past 6 months due to opinion and view differences between them on various work issues. He instead gave the post to a new and inexperienced candidate. The Warehouse in-charge, Mr. Sreenivas is also involved with him. But one day, Sathyaraj, an A grade operator does a sting operation on them and threatens them to show the video of their conversation to the M.D. The Factory Manager and the Warehouse in-charge are scared of the smuggling & adulteration charges against them and hence end up getting Sathyaraj beaten up out of anxiety and fear. This incident infuriates the Labour Union and the truth is out in the open. The Union leader Mr. Rakesh Sharma, taking advantage of the situation and due to vengeance against the Factory Manager threatens to call out for a strike if the guilty are not sacked. Now the decision, which is quite obvious, is sacking the Factory Manager and the Warehouse in-charge. But the company cant afford to do that as both of them have been valuable employees. The Factory Manager has roped in most of the orders and has

been responsible for the companys turn over 3 times in the past 2 years. This had greatly lead to sky-high profits and a rise in the share values in the market. The Production Managers and Supervisors respect him and listen to whatever he says and are hence trying to protect him. Also, the Warehouse in-charge has always been responsible in issuing the trims and accessories to the departments on time. Both of them have served for nearly 7-8 years in the company. On the other hand, the labour union is in fury and reluctant to work unless proper action is taken. The Production Manager Mr. Manohar is vouching for the Factory Manager. The Human Resource Manager, Mrs. Maya wants an unbiased action for the welfare of the working clan. Mr. Vasanth is in a dilemma now. He has to play the role of a peaceful and intelligent decision maker for the benefit of the company.
