SUBJECT: MAPEH
INTRODUCTION:
Besides the operation itself, a surgeon is also responsible for taking care of the
patient prior to the actual surgical procedures. However, their primary duties
varies depending on their specialization and employer. Few more of a Surgeon’s
duty includes the following. Initially, a surgeon needs to collect their patient’s
medical history and records. Next is keeping the patient information up to date
with current test results and treatments. They also need review test results to be
able to identify and diagnose medical conditions. Additionally, a surgeon must
also make and develop treatment plans for patient care. Addressing any of the
questions or concerns of the patient or their family is a must too. Besides that,
surgeons must also aid their patient throughout the healing process after the
intraoperative phase of the perioperative period. To conclude, collaboration
within a team of other medical professionals is also important for a surgeon.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
A lot of surgeons mostly work in private or public hospitals, even though some
might go into private practices. Surgeons generally have long hours of work. This
may include the evenings and weekends, it all depends on the situation and how
busy at the moment. Moreover, surgeons are also required to be on-call in case of
an emergency.
Surgeons work and operate in theatre rooms. Everything inside that room must be
completely sterile. The surgeons must also wear protective clothing to protect
themselves and their patients from harm.
Surgeon have a high level of contact and communication with their patients
because they need to know how they feel. Surgeons may also grow a generally
high level of contact with the family of their patients. And with this knowledge, we
can conclude that communication skills is a must too in being a surgeon. Lastly,
with their communication skills, they must also stay in contact with other medical
professionals at work, which may include general practitioners, nurses, and
anesthetists.
EMPLOYMENT:
A surgeon have both an office and a medical facility for the operation.
Their spaces might be in hospitals or other surgical centers, or
sometimes off-site in an office building. They might also share this office
space with several other doctors inside the facility they are in. Surgeons
actually sit a lot during office work while assessing patients and
prescribing medicines. Office works also includes extensive usage of
computers. This is because medical records are increasingly being
maintained digitally. The surgeons inside the same work space are also
required to communicate with administrators and more personnel. This
action is to ensure that the office operates according to the standards
that it wants to uphold. On the other hand, their hospital works
requires standing for a long time while performing surgeries, which
contradicts with the other. Surgery rooms are fast-paced environment
with a lot of people, along with the surgeon, performing separate tasks
as to prevent stalling time. As the man that acts as the leader in surgical
team, the surgeon needs to give clear directions so that each team
members performs their part quickly and accurately. Lastly, being clean
and maintaining good hygiene is a must in surgery for it to be safe for
the patient.
