LEED and GSAS, the Plot A-04 Achieved

elegant and simple cubical design will fit
the surrounding structures on certain
facades the solid look is maintained by
using perforated GRC cladding which will
give excellent shaded views from the
inside and a solid look from the outside.
The whole building design was formed
using folded plates relaying an
impression of monumentality but still
maintaining the elegance and lightness
intended. The elevations inclined slightly
to the outside to reduce the exposure to
direct sunlight and give an illusion of a
higher building. The use of folded plates
allowed for a play of solid versus void that
redeemed the building from being a glass
bulk and at the same time avoided the
use of punched windows which would
scale-down the whole building image.

as Precast concrete or "Glass Fibre
Reinforced Concrete" systems that can
have various looks and textures.

BARZAN TOWERS, RESTORATION

CICO was charged with the architectural

and engineering restoration plans for this
national heritage compound. The Barzan
Towers have been completely restored and
rebuilt. A lot of effort was focused on
information gathering and historical
research to ensure the authenticity of rebuilt
areas. Barzan means "high place', and it
was said that pearl divers could see the
Barzan Towers when they returned from
their pearl trips. The buildings were
essentially watch towers, probably buill to
protect an area where rainwater collected
and date trees would grow. The towers
were built at the start of the 20th century by
Sheik Mohammed Bin Jassim Al Thani in
Umm Salal,Mohammed Province of Qatar.
