    After the death of King Harshavardhan, his empire broke apart into several small kingdoms. Three kingdoms in particular grew powerful during this period known as the Age of Three Empires between 750-1000 CE. These were the Pala, Pratihara, and Rashtrakuta Empires. The Pratihara Empire was founded by Nagabhatta I and later disintegrated due to constant internal battles weakening the empire. The Rashtrakuta king Amoghavarsha was a great patron of Sanskrit literature and wrote Kaviragamarga, a Kannada poetry work.
