Installing ITS for BW: Documentation Enhancement

ITS for BW Installation: Basic Steps

 This guide was created using BW version 2.0A and ITS 4.6A. There may be some
differences in later versions. This document is to serve as an enhancement to the
official ITS Installation Guide, SAP@Web Installation Guide.
 Outline of important steps, more detail on each to follow:

 Read the SAP@Web Installation Guide and SAPNet Notes

 This guide covers installation of both the Agate and Wgate components on a single
NT 4.0 server with SP4.
 Install Microsoft IIS 4.0 from NT option pack CD (or downloadable from
Microsoft.com)
 Upgrade Microsoft Management Console to v1.1 or later (from NT/Kernel CD or
microsoft.com)

 Plan ahead for multiple ITS instances on one host: Set up OS directories before ITS
installation for website/scripts subdirectories
 Create website in IIS, set virtual subdirectory to scripts, set properties X-Run in
separate memory space
 Create ITSAdmin user in BW/R3 system, and ITSAdmin and ITSusers OS groups on
server (NT User Admin utility)
 Install steps ITS per SAP@Web Installation Guide. To install multiple instances,
intitial steps are required. Steps outlined in SAP@Web Installation Guide show a
default installation. For multiple instances of ITS, install once for <BWSID1>, once
for <BWSID2> another time for ADM site (admin install if desired) (See OSS NOTEs)
 QA - Verify scripts virtual subdirectory properties: X-Run in separate memory
space after ITS install, start/stop website in IIS, upgrade IE on server to 5.0plus.
Verify all .srvc service files [global.srvc, webgui.srvc (only if webgui is installed
seperately), webrfc.srvc, admin.srvc]
 Release all WWW and RSBB functions in the BW system using transaction SMW0
 Test complete webrfc and webgui functions using links

 See the ITS installation guide: SAP@Web Installation Guide)

The latest available version exists in PDF and CHM formats. You can get this
document in SAPNet (alias instguides), from the ITS external Web site (at
http://www.saplabs.com/its )
 There may be an updated version of ITS available. New versions are at
http://www.saplabs.com/ ->USA ->download -> ITS -> new version.
BW 2.0a ships with Version ITS4.6B. (4620.0.0.306)
 Read SAPNET Notes: 187445, 183845, 180030, 105055, 113914, 201853
 Look for additional notes.
 On NT 4.0 server with min. SP4 (or 5, but NOT SP6!) [10-30 Minutes – Requires
System Reboot]
 Install IIS 4.0 from NT option pack CD (or downloadable from MS.com) (IIS1.bmp)
(IIS2.bmp)

Install Typical options

* Not SAP recommended, but MS says if installing on a BDC, select Custom install and deselect
“Index server and subcomponents” and World Wide Web Samples”
Accept all install defaults, hit next until complete. (Finish to end)
*NOTE: Do not upgrade IE until after IIS installs, then IE can be upgraded to IE 5.1 or later.

 Upgrade MMC to v1.1 (from NT/Kernel CD or microsoft.com)

© SAP AG 2000 TABW90 ITS for BW - 1

 Upgrade MMC to v1.1 or later (from NT/Kernel CD 51008611 or ms.com) [2 minutes - ADS
Requires System Reboot]

NT\I386\MMC directory, run ADS.exe and immc.exe per p34-35 of the NT BW 2.0a
SAP@Web Installation Guide

 Plan for multiple ITS instances on one webserver - Set up OS directories for
website/scripts subdir

37MB space plus logs. Create OS directory of same name as website on destination drive –
suggested (ex. Both D:\ITS\<SID> and D:\ITS\ADM)
NOTE: IIS Website properties directory is this location – static 2MB, Set ITS install directory set
to same location as D:\ITS\<SID> above vs. default C:\Program Files\SAP\ITS\2.0\<SID> – This
directory
includes the dynamic log and trace directories ~35MB + . See Figure 1:

Figure 1: Example directory structure planning for future multiple ITS instances.
Create ITS directory. Create <SID> and ADM subdirectories. Create further
subdirectories called “scripts”.

 Create <SID> and ADM Website in IIS, set virtual subdirectory to scripts
Create Virtual Subdirectory under each new website, pointing to the scripts subdirectories you
created in the previous step Reminder: Browse to select virtual scripts subdirectory. See following
illustration for sequence:

step. The installer IS the ITS admin.

 Install ITS per sap@web SAP@Web Installation Guide, no package selected
(installs to default area/site), then once more for BW2 package - your ITS web
instance - usually <SID>, third time to ADM site (admin install if desired)

server where a high-security production ITS instance is also located.

 Quality Assurance Step: verify “scripts” virtual subdirectory properties. Select

“Run in separate memory space”. After ITS install, start/stop website in IIS,
upgrade Internet Explorer on server to 5.0plus. Troubleshooting: Verify all .srvc
service files (global.srvc, webgui.srvc (if installed), webrfc.srvc, admin.srvc)

 Release all “WWW*” and “RSBB*” functions in the BW system, transaction SMW0:

“Function Modules.”

released individually! They are not pre-released due to security concerns.

(Test complete webrfc and webgui functions. (if Webgui installed)

Use the following sample links to test functionality:

ITS Notes:
You will be asked to log in with your R/3 (BWB) login. All functions have been released.
The Administrator Workbench transaction (RSA1) is not functional in this release of the webgui. This
must be used only in SAPGUI.
The below ITS test function gives you all needed info for posting web queries -

There is an ITS admin service set up on the same port as well as the webgui service:

http://isphln05:1082/scripts/wgate/webgui/!?

http://isphln05:1082/scripts/wgate/admin/!

Troubleshooting:

If you see this error (screenshot) the reason is….and this is how to fix it!

 create itsadm user in R/3 – remember username, pwd, client and host
 create subdirectories for multiple instances, with scripts subdirectory under each, example: <SID>,
ADM
 In MS Management Console for IIS, Rightclick on server, Create NEW website for each <SID>,
ADM, virtual subdirectory scripts, point to the ones you created at the OS level.
