ASSIGNMENT IN EDUC. 401 METHODS OF RESEARCH

Direction: Submit your two (2) proposed problems/titles with

justification.

1. Problem/ Title

“Assessing the effectiveness of Science Game- Based

Activities in Enhancing Grade- 7 Students’ Conceptual
Understanding of General Science: Basis for Module Making”

Justification

The application of game- based activities in teaching

science subject to the students had gained significant attention
as a potential tool to enhance student engagement and learning
outcomes in education. This thesis aims to assess the
effectiveness of integrating and incorporating gamified elements
into the grade 7 science curriculum. By investigating the
relationship between gamification, this study can offer a
valuable insight into innovative teaching methods that could
improve student motivation and achievement in a crucial subject
like science. Furthermore, it can also provide valuable insights
to educators and curriculum developers seeking innovative
strategies to foster meaningful learning experiences in science
education.
2. Problem/ Title

"Synergizing Science and Beyond: Harmonizing

Interdisciplinary Elements in Designing Performance Tasks for
Enhanced Learning Outcomes"

Justification

Harmonizing science subjects with other subjects in making

performance tasks holds several significant benefits and
importance in the field of education. This title highlights the
key aspects of the thesis, which focuses on integrating multiple
subjects or disciplines into science performance tasks. The word
"Harmonizing" emphasizes the effort to create a seamless and
cohesive connection between science and other subjects.
"Interdisciplinary Elements" points to the incorporation of
various knowledge domains to enrich the performance tasks.
"Designing Performance Tasks" underscores the central focus on
creating assessment activities that go beyond traditional
methods. "Enhanced Learning Outcomes" suggests the ultimate goal
of improving students' learning experiences and achievements
through this innovative and holistic approach.
This study can offer a valuable insight to educators and
curriculum developers by giving them the following benefits:
First, Enhanced Interdisciplinary Learning: By integrating
science with other subjects, such as mathematics, language arts,
or social studies, performance tasks become opportunities for
students to connect knowledge from different domains. This
approach fosters a deeper understanding of how various subjects
are interconnected in the real world, promoting holistic and
comprehensive learning experiences.
Second, Real-World Application: Harmonized performance tasks
often mirror real-world challenges that professionals face. For
example, combining science with technology and engineering
concepts can lead to tasks that involve designing sustainable
solutions to environmental issues. Such tasks provide students
with authentic experiences, helping them see the relevance of
their learning and prepare them for practical applications in
their future careers.
And lastly, Problem-Solving Skills: Integrating multiple
subjects in performance tasks can require critical thinking and
problem-solving skills. Students may need to apply scientific
principles, analyze data, use mathematical reasoning, and
communicate their findings effectively. This multidimensional
approach nurtures well-rounded problem-solving abilities that are
crucial in various academic and professional settings.

Harmonizing science subjects with other subjects in

performance tasks offers a multifaceted approach to learning that
enhances interdisciplinary understanding, problem-solving skills,
and student engagement. By bridging the gap between different
disciplines, this integration supports a more holistic and
meaningful educational experience for students, preparing them to
navigate a complex and interconnected world.
