BAKONJO

The Bakonjo people believe that theRwenzori Mountains belong to them, so they jealously protect them
while living deep on the hills. They are commonly called "bakonzo''. .The clans have to protect their
totems as in they are not allowed to harm, kill or eat their totems. Each of the Bakonzo clan has another
Bankonzo clan which they regard as their "fake enemy". For example, the Bakira's "fake enemy" are the
Bahira clan. The "Abasu Banyangalba" is the royal clan.

Language
They speak the Rukonjo, Olukonjo as the language and practice traditional religions, Islam and
Christianity. They also live on the Western slopes of the Rwenzori range in the Democratic Republic of
the Congo.

Fashion & Cultural dance


They have three traditional dances like the Baganda i.e. Omukumu, Kikibi & Endara. The Endara dance is
played in both parties and called a ''love dance''.

Food & Preparation


The staple food for Bakonzo is Obundu and is more delicious when served with Sombe as sauce.
Amazingly and unique Obundu is made from cassava flour while sauce sombe is prepared from cassava
leaves.
