Assignment 6
The current world population as of April 2022 of humans is 7.9 billion people. The highest
populated country in the world is China at a whopping 1,439,323,776 people as of 2022. They
had a positive net change of 5,540,090 people in the past year. China is notorious for their one
child rule, in which a family can only have one child. This was put in place in the late 1970’s to
reduce the country’s huge, and growing, population. The policy has since been relaxed because
of the declining birth rate in the country. Another country that has a huge population is the
very country we live in: The United States. The United States has a population of 334,345,646
people as of 4/3/2022. The United States has a net increase of population of 0.59% per year.
According to state.gov, “the U.S. does not endorse population ‘stabilization’ or ‘control.’” The
page goes on to explain that they support families choosing when and how many children they
have rather than the country choosing for them. Therefore, the United States is working
towards figuring out how to support the increasing population rather than trying to control it.
On top of that, the U.S. takes in a net of 954,806 immigrants into the country. The United States
does not have plans to stop taking in immigrants from other countries. Last, but not least, the
second most populated country, India. India has 1,380,004,385 people. Their density is 464
people per square kilometer. Comparatively, the U.S. has a density of 36 and China 153.
Therefore, India is a very dense country. India has had a 0.99% increase in population.
Considering India’s large population, 0.99% is a lot of people to add to a country. 13,586,631
people to be exact. India is trying to convince the families in their country to stick with the idea
that a small family is the ideal situation. They do this through advertising and education, rather
than force like China’s course of action.
