1.0 SCOPE
FM Global has accepted and adopted NFPA 12A, Standard on Halon 1301 Fire Extinguishing Systems, 1997
Edition. FM Global comments including any differences between the NFPA and FM Global are provided in
the FM Global Interpretation Section. FM Global Property Loss Prevention Data Sheet 4-0, Special Protection
Systems, also applies to Halon 1301 systems.
The primary purpose of this data sheet is to provide continuing guidance for existing Halon 1301 system
installations. The main topic added in the 1997 Edition of NFPA 12A is the decommissioning and removal
of Halon 1301 systems. Refer to Subsection 2.2, Comments and Exceptions under the FM GLOBAL INTER-
PRETATION Section for further clarification/information.
2.1 Introduction
There are no significant FM Global exceptions to the guidance provided in the NFPA 12A Standard.
3.1 General
Satisfactory performance of a Halon 1301 system can best be assured by following the loss prevention
guidance provided within this document.
