Uses of 3D printing in complete denture prosthetics

3D printing is also known as Additive manufacturing ,rapid prototyping, layered manufacturing, or solid
free fabrication.

This a process in which multiple layers of materials are added one by one under computer control to
create 3 dimensional object.

Current innovations and developments in digital dentistry have successfully led to the fabrication of
removable dental prostheses using CAD/CAM technologies.

3D-printing is an additive manufacturing technique.

Products are built up layer by layer instead of removing material from a large piece of material.

The Uses of 3D-printing in complete Denture Prosthetics include;

1. Reduction in the numbers of patients visits could be advantageous for old patients who have hard
times traveling back and forth to the Dental office

2. Reduction in clinical chair time for the fabrication of complete Dentures decreases clinicians overhead
and increases profitability

3. All collected data, produced images ,and tooth arrangements can be saved digitally and used for
future fabrication of an additional Denture, lost Denture , or a surgical or Radiographic template

4. Time consuming Laboratory procedures are reduced or eliminated allowing the Dental technician to
ensure reproducible, efficient and accurate prosthetics
5. The prepolymerized acrylic resins used by some manufacturers for the fabrication of Denture base
provide a superior fit and strength when compared to the conventionally processed based. The milled
prepololymerized acrylic resins undergoes no polymerization shrinkage

6. Independent research indicate that prepolymerized acrylic resins (PAR) contain less residual
monomer and more hydrophobic than the conventionally processed acrylic resin PAR reduce the
potential

There is large design freedom; therefore, highly complex geometries can be made.

Designs can easily be personalized and customized; there is no need to change the machine.

Parts can be produced cheaply and quickly from idea to end product.
