Metabolic syndrome, characterized by a cluster of metabolic abnormalities, has emerged as a significant

health concern worldwide. The prevalence of metabolic syndrome has been steadily increasing, and it
poses a substantial burden on public health systems.
This study contributes to the expanding knowledge of metabolic syndrome in children by investigating
the intricate connections between lipid profile parameters and the development of this multifaceted
condition. By identifying lipid-related abnormalities early in life, we can take proactive measures to
mitigate the long-term risks associated with metabolic syndrome in pediatric populations.

The Objectives of the study were to identify the components of MetS present in overweight and
obese children, to determine the age at which MetS components begin to manifest in overweight
and obese children explore the association between overweight/obesity.
The study was conducted over a 5 years and 4 months period from January 2018 to April 2023. It
included 86 pediatric patients who were admitted to the "Louis Turcanu" Emergency Hospital for
Children in Timisoara, Romania. These patients had an overweight or obese profile and were
diagnosed with MetS. The study aimed to investigate the association between overweight/obesity
and the early development of MetS in this specific population. Various circumstances and factors
were taken into consideration during the study period. Data on weight status and metabolic
parameters were collected from a sample as anonymized datasets.
The results showed that :
• Mets is more common in males(66%) than females(34%).
• The prevalence of Mets is increasing with age
• The study examined the prevalence of hypertension, hyperglycemia, obesity, and
dyslipidemia among the participants. Among males, there were 30 cases of hypertension
representing 34.8% of total patients, 53 cases of hyperglycemia representing 61.6% of the
total patients, and 50 cases of dyslipidemia representing 58.1%.
