Summary and Response: Kimberle Crenshaw

Crenshaw's talk focused on the importance of intersectionality in social justice

movements. She argued that to effectively address systemic oppression. She wanted the audience

to recognize and address the intersections of multiple identities, such as race, gender, class, and

sexual orientation. She discussed the importance of recognizing and addressing these

intersections to create a more inclusive and equitable society. Crenshaw's work has had a

significant impact on the field of intersectionality and continues to inspire and inform activists

and scholars alike.

In my opinion, Crenshaw’s talk was like a wakeup call. Her talk did give me a better

understanding of intersectionality. The way she gave out examples on discrimination in her TED

talk was making me somewhat anxious on how the situation can escalate and the weight of

taking innocent lives can affect someone. Coming from my experience, I came from a

Vietnamese culture, and I did not get to see how other people express their identities other than

men or women. So, it was exciting for me to learn more about the outside world and how other

people express themselves.
