Project Title Laser Based Gun Training Simulator

Students

Supervisor
Trainee soldiers often use quite a big amount of
ammunition and the guns used are also subject to
wear and tear. The purpose of this project is to save
ammunition and gun expenditure. Also, providing
realistic and quality training experience to trainee
soldiers in the process.
The simulator uses a gun, target board and graphical
user interface (GUI). All are synchronized to provide
a seamless and uninterrupted experience. The effect
of elevation (weight of bullet) is also simulated.
Along with the effect created due to mechanical
recoil. Also, the target board uses sensors in arrays
to accurately pin point the laser burst’s point of
Abstract contact. Effectively, driving the respective LED’s.
The sensor arrays are configured to only recognize
the laser burst, effectively diminishing the effects of
other light source interferences. This provides a
visually accurate display of the laser burst’s hit
point. The graphical user interface (GUI) provides a
visual representation of the trainee’s performance, in
the form of generated report. Also, the trainer is able
to assess the trainee’s performance in real time and
provide supervision.
