CHAPTER I

THE PROBLEM AND ITS SETTINGS

Introduction

Real time Image Classification is a fundamental task that attempts to

comprehend an entire image as a whole. The goal is to classify the image by

assigning it to a specific label. Typically, Image Classification refers to images

in which only one object appears and is analyzed. In general, the term Real-

time refers to a process where a model developed for one problem is used in

some capacity to another similar problem. Transfer learning is a deep learning

technique that involves training a neural network model on an issue that is

similar to the one that has to be addressed. Transfer learning provides the

benefit of shortening a learning model's training period and lowering

generalization error.

With the continuous innovation of network technology, various kinds of

convenient network technologies have grown, and human dependence on

network technology has gradually increased, which has resulted in the

importance of network information security issues. With the continuous

development of industrialization, the application of sensors is becoming more

and more extensive, for example, the security vulnerabilities and defects in the

operating system itself. Traditional sensors can “perceive” a certain thing or

signal, convert it into an electrical signal and record it, and then use a

conversion circuit to output the electrical signal into a value or other display

form that is conducive to observation. Nowadays, sensors have been further

developed. Based on the original “perception” function, combined with

computer technology,

2
it integrates data storage, data processing, data communication, and

other functions, so that it has analysis functions and can better display

information. The technical level has reached a new level. Early intelligent

recognition mainly used the uniqueness of finger and palm lines to scan and

contrast, but due to some weather reasons or skin texture constraints caused by

skin texture, these methods showed certain limitations. This paper proposes a

new computer vision-based algorithm from face detection technology and face

recognition technology. In the face detection technology, it is mainly introduced

from the OpenCV method. Face recognition technology is improved in practical

applications through the Seetaface method and YouTu method. At the same

time, using the contrast experiment, the detection and recognition rates under the

three different requirements of side face detection, occlusion detection, and facial

exaggerated expression are compared, and the accuracy of each method is

improved. The results show that each case is compared in each case. The

advantages and disadvantages of the algorithm effectively verify the

effectiveness of the method (Lu et al., 2021).

North Eastern Mindanao State University Lianga Campus has two

dormitories. These two dormitories accommodate one for students and the other

one for faculty and staff living outside the municipality of Lianga Surigao del sur.

Guard, outsiders, friends, classmates can enter the dorm. Faculty/staff and

students there is a need to secure their important things. Real-time image

classification in Dormitories is an image classification refers to the task of

extracting information classes from a multiband raster image. LBPH (Local

3
Binary Pattern Histogram) is a Face-Recognition algorithm which is used to

recognize the face of a person. It is known for its performance and how it is able

to recognize the face of a person from both front face and side face.

This paper is intended for the development of an image classification to

identify the students, faculty and staff living in the dormitories of NEMSU-LIANGA

CAMPUS.

Objectives of the study

The objective of this study is to use the Local Binary pattern Histogram

for classifying Real-time images of tenants in the dormitory of NEMSU-Lianga

Campus.

The following are the specific objectives of the study;

 To develop application for Real-time Image Classification System.

 To utilize Local Binary Pattern Histogram (LBPH) in classifying

images.

 To test the effectiveness of the developed Real-time image

classification

Significance of Study

The importance of this study is to detect non-tenants using Real-time

Image Classification for Dormitories by the fact that it provides tenants security. It

benefits tenants since it is made easy to detect non-tenants in the dorm. The

researchers develop Real-time image classification in Dormitories with Alarm

system.

4
Scope and Limitation of the Study
The study fucoses on Real-time image classification using LBPH to be

used by tenants or those who rent the said dormitory. The said dormitory has a

maximum renter of 40 people and the renter so far has reached the maximum.

This system is focused only in the dormitory, everything that happens outside the

dormitory is not known to the system, which focused on people who are

registered in the dormitory. The video cam is placed only in front of the door of

the dormitory, It is focused on those who might want to enter the said dormitory

and inform who are not members. Our system is weak especially at night

because it has a hard time recognizing a human face. The system cannot detect

when a person is wearing a hat or a mask because the features of this system

are the eyes, mouth and cheeks. This system cannot detect further than 1 meter

from the camera. Everything that happens inside the dormitory is not an answer

to the system, As focusses only everyone on who enters the said dormitory.

Definition of Terms

Image Classification - is the process of categorizing and labeling groups

of pixels or vectors within an image based on specific rules. The

categorization law can be devised. Recognition algorithm based on a

local binary operator, designed to recognize both using one or more

spectral or textural characteristics.

Local Binary Pattern Histogram (LBPH) - The Local Binary Pattern

Histogram (LBPH) algorithm is a face the side and front face of a

human.

5
Algorithm – a procedure for solving mathematical problem in a finite number

of steps that frequently involves repetition of an operation.

Data – information that has been translated into a form that is efficient for

movement or processing. It is an information converted into binary

digital form.

Datasets – is a structured collection of data generally associated with a unique

body work. It is used from collecting data or images to manage and

gathered into it.

Camera- the one that can detect tenants or non-tenants.

Dormitory- a place where students and faculty and staff are staying.

Detector- the one who will specifically detect the image of the person .
