Craig and Karl

Two modern artists that live on different sides of
the world. One in New York and one in London.
They collaborate to create bold work that is filled
with simple messages. They have worked for
companies like Google, Apple and Baskin Robins

What do you notice about their style?

Roy Lichtenstein

Born in America in 1923 he was a leading figure

in the Pop Art movement during the 60’s.
He was inspired by advertising and comic books.

Lichtenstein chose
colours carefully, to
imitate the four colours
of printers’ inks.

What similarities do you see between Craig and Karl’s works and Lichtenstein’s?

Ben Day Dots

A system invented to increase the range of colours available
to newspaper printing. Look closely at his work – can you
see how the colours are clear from a distance, but look like
tiny dots and dashes close-up.

From a distance the lady’s face looks pink but it is actually

red dots on a white background.

And the orange background is actually red dots on yellow!
