Proposed Disaster Risk Reduction Training, Research, and Evacuation Facility in Rodriguez, Rizal

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
A. ABSTRACT

Rodriguez is a municipality in the Philippines' province of Rizal. It is located in a geographical region

noted for its vulnerability to natural disasters due to its position and terrain. Rodriguez is located in a
hilly and mountainous region, and significant rainfall, particularly during the rainy season, can cause
flash floods and landslides. Steep topography combined with heavy rainfall can cause quick runoff,
resulting in floods that can destroy infrastructure and residences. The area's mountainous geography
and soil composition make it prone to landslides, especially during heavy rain or earthquake activity.
While the immediate area surrounding Rodriguez is not as seismically active as other sections of the
country, the possibility of earthquakes remains. During the typhoon season, the Philippines is frequently
hit by typhoons (also known as hurricanes or cyclones in other parts of the world). These storms can
cause widespread damage and floods by bringing powerful winds, torrential rainfall, and storm surges.
The Philippines' humid environment can also contribute to the spread of tropical diseases, such as
vector-borne diseases like dengue fever. Given Rodriguez's vulnerability to natural catastrophes, it is
critical for local governments and communities to have disaster preparedness and response plans in
place. This comprises evacuation methods, infrastructure resilience, early warning systems, and
disaster risk education. The designer's goal is to assist communities that are prone to disasters by
designing a facility that would be able to cater to the community in the event of natural disasters.

B. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

This study attempts to meet the health care needs of the citizens of Rodriguez, Rizal, and their
surrounding towns without requiring them to go to other places. The distance, travel time, and
transportation costs place unjustifiable burdens on the poor, discouraging them from seeking necessary
medical care.

C. PROJECT OBJECTIVES AND GOALS

 To design a healthcare facility that will provide adequate health services for the people.
 To design a healthcare facility that will improve the living condition of the community.
 To design a healthcare facility that will provide employment opportunities to the community.
 To design a healthcare facility that will improve patient health outcomes.

D. PROJECT LOCATION

The proposed area of the project will be located in Rodriguez, Rizal.
