Quarter 1 – Module 6
Vulnerability in Disaster
1. A. disaster 11. D. Urban region has higher population
2. B. hazard density than rural region.
3. A. human activities affect the intensity of 12. C. They have the capacity to do mass
the typhoon testing
4. C. occurrence of natural hazards 13. C. Balik probinsiya, bagong Pag – asa
5. D. when it happens in an area without any Program
people 14. B. number of individuals living in an area in
6. A. exposure relation to the size of an area.
7. D. community provides accessible services 15. B. human population
and facilities for response
8. D. our government already acquired
technology that can predict super typhoon
9. D. increased vulnerability
10. D. disruption of transportation

1. List down 3 differences between the 2 images presented.

▪ The first picture is an urban area while the second picture is a rural area
▪ There are many people inhabiting the urban place while fewer people live in the rural place.
▪ Diseases and other viruses are most likely to dwell in the urban areas compared to the rural areas.

2. Which image shows higher vulnerability of transmissible infections diseases?

▪ The first image shows higher vulnerability of transmissible infectious diseases.

3. Give explanation why the identified differences makes it vulnerable and not vulnerable to
infectious disaster.

▪ The first image makes it vulnerable to infectious diseases because of higher population density, poor
housing, and poor sanitation infrastructure – as compared to rural areas – have also been shown to
increase the risks associated with some infectious diseases. Rural areas have a low population
density compared to that of the urban areas so it is less vulnerable to infectious diseases.
1. Which image shows higher level of vulnerability during typhoon?

▪ Image 1 shows higher level of vulnerability during typhoon.

2. List 3 possible reason why the chosen image in item 1 question has a higher level of
vulnerability on the given scenario.

▪ Image 1 has a higher level of vulnerability because there are floods surrounding the place, due to the
floods it can bring diseases and viruses to the people, and lastly there are no means of going to
another place / disruption of transportation.

3. Which image portrays better capabilities to response during times of disaster? Explain
why.
▪ Image 1 portrays better capabilities to response during times of disaster because they have a disaster
response and recovery plan. They have thought, planned and put into action. They built a bridge just
like in the picture so that the people could go to places and for the children to go to school.

Direction: Recall the exits and entrances of your previous school. Answer the following questions
based on your observation.

1. Are there exits allotted for emergency escape plan? How many?

▪ Yes, there were 2 exits allotted for emergency escape plane in my previous school.

2. Are those exits passable and void of blocking hazards?

▪ Yes, those exits are possible and void of blocking hazards

3. Are the gates working and can be easily opened in case of emergency?

▪ Yes, the gates are working fine and can be easily opened in case of emergency.
4. Are these exits known to the students?

▪ Yes, we students know these exits.

5. Are the number of exits sufficient so that all the students can get out in time during
emergency?

▪ Yes, the number of exits is sufficient and enough for us students to get out in case of an emergency.

6. Do you practice emergency escape thru drills? Are there designated areas
for the students to go to so that the teachers will be able to check if there
are missing students?

▪ Yes, we practice emergency escape plans thru drills and yes there were designated areas for us
students to go to so that the teachers and school staffs would be able to check if there are missing
students.

7. Do you think your school is highly capable of making sure of the safety of their learners?
Explain why.

▪ Yes, based on my experience I think my school is highly capable of making sure of the safety of their
learners since we often perform drills in case of emergencies and also we have a subject that teaches
us the preparedness and readiness of each and every one of us when a disaster and emergency
happens.

8. What do you think are the possible factors considered by the DRRM
coordinator of your school in preparing your school in times of emergency?

▪ The Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Services takes the lead in empowering the learners,
personnel, schools and offices to ensure safety and learning continuity. It enables us to be prepared
at all times.
Direction: Identify what factor affects the vulnerability to disaster with the following
situations given. Write P if it is due to population density and write C if it is due to sector’s
capacity and efficiency to reduce disaster risk. Write your answer on a separate sheet of
paper.

1. Tondo community during the total lockdown due to COVID-19 pandemic

wherein the families are forced to stay inside their houses that are too
small for the number of family members.
ANSWER: P

2. Use of drones to disinfect the community in Pasig City to prevent the spread of the
COVIDD-19 virus.
ANSWER: C

3. Insufficient number of rubber boats during super typhoon Yolanda in Malabon City
wherein large number of residents were stranded on the top of their roof.
ANSWER: C

4. Too many casualties during super typhoon Milenyo in Los Baños due to excessive kaingin
practices and illegal settlers in Mt. Makiling.
ANSWER: P

5. The Philippines and Japan are both prone to earthquakes but the latter one is less
vulnerable.
ANSWER: C

1. After answering the questions in “What’s new”, what are the possible
problems that you were able to identify?

▪ After answering the questions in “What’s new”. The possible problems that I’ve identified are the lack
of education and knowledge, awareness, preparedness and weak planning. Accessibility and
availability of facilities during a disaster.
2. If you will be assigned as a Student DRRM coordinator, what possible
solutions to the problem can you suggest?

▪ If I would be assigned as a Student DRRM coordinator, the possible solution that I would suggest to
the problem be more prepared and practice more drills. Identify the facilities that are not working fine
and try to fix it as soon as possible. Education, knowledge and awareness development is also a must.

3. What possible activities can you suggest to increase the awareness of the
learners on how to lessen the vulnerability of your previous school?

▪ Set up awareness booths and fairs or community events. Display CERT information, display sample
emergency kits and provide handouts for creating kits at home.
▪ Provide relevant disaster preparedness information on our school website. Ensure that this
information is current and relevant by updating the website at least once a year.
▪ Practice more disaster drills.
▪ Implementing building codes.
▪ More symposiums on how to lessen the vulnerability of the school.
▪ Knowledge and awareness raising

Direction: Read the given situation then answer the questions that follow. Write
your answer on a separate sheet of paper.

You are the barangay captain of Brgy.

Canlubang. Your response team is
deployed, and you have your radio
with you. Reports are streaming-in for
assistance and relief goods. Mobile
patrols are having a difficult time
going around due to lack of accessible
barangay roads. At the same time, the
barangay is heavily populated so
there was a shortage of response
vehicles to assist the victims and
deliver relief goods to the evacuation
area.
1. What do you think are the possible problems being faced by Barangay
Canlubang? Give three (3) possible problems.

▪ The three possible problems that the Baranggay Canlubang faced are, mobile patrols that having a
difficult time going around due to lack of accessible Baranggay roads, the Baranggay is heavily
populated so there was a shortage of response vehicles to assist the victims and deliver relief goods
to the evacuation area.

2. In this kind of situation, what do you think is the liability of the local
officials? National government?

▪ They could be able to help the national government, distribute some relief goods for the community,
command some protocols and release funds for the roads in order to access.

3. Suggest three (3) possible solutions based on your identified

possible problems.

▪ Since the barangay is heavily populated, we should educate them about family planning.
▪ Ask for funds in the government to widen and fix the road of the Baranggay Canlubang in order for
the vehicles to pass through.
▪ Ask for the help of the local officials in delivering the relief goods since there was a shortage of
response vehicles to assist them.
