Introductory Message

Welcome to SSES Grade 1 Computer.

The Learning Activity Sheet is a product of the collaborative efforts of the

Schools Division of Iloilo and DepEd Regional Office VI - Western Visayas through
the Curriculum and Learning Management Division (CLMD). This is developed to
guide the learning facilitators (teachers, parents, and responsible adults) in helping
the learners meet the standards set by the K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum.

The Learning Activity Sheet is self-directed instructional materials aimed to

guide the learners in accomplishing activities at their own pace and time using the
contextualized resources in the community. This will also assist the learners in
acquiring the lifelong learning skills, knowledge and attitudes for productivity and
employment.

For the learning facilitator:

The SSES Computer 1 Learning Activity Sheet will help you facilitate the
teaching-learning activities specified in each Most Essential Learning Competency
(MELC) with minimal or no face-to-face encounter between you and learner. This
will be made available to the learners with the references/links to ease the
independent learning.

For the learner:

The SSES Computer 1 Learning Activity Sheet is developed to help you

continue learning even if you are not in school. This learning material provides you
with meaningful and engaging activities for independent learning. Being an active
learner, carefully read and understand the instructions then perform the activities
and answer the assessments. This will be returned to your facilitator on the agreed
schedule.

History of Computer

I. Learning Competency
Construct a timeline or history of computer.

II. Background Information for Learners

Hello learner!
In this lesson, you should be able to practice again in
constructing a timeline or history of computer based on the
development of its major parts.
Read the notes below and know the major parts that
contributed greatly to the development of computers through
time.

First Generation (1940 – 1955): Vacuum Tubes

The first computers used vacuum tubes for circuitry and
magnetic drums for memory.

1
A transistor (short for transfer resistance) is a device composed of
semiconductor material that amplifies a signal or opens or closes a
circuit.

The Third Generation (1964 – 1975): Integrated Circuits

Integrated Circuit is referred to as an IC, a chip or a microchip. The
first IC was invented and used in 1961. The size of IC is about ¼ square
inch. The computer became smaller in size, faster, more reliable and
less expensive.

2
Fourth Generation (1975 – To Present): Microprocessor
A microprocessor is also known as CPU or central processing unit.
It is a computer processor on a chip. It is the heart of the computer.
Below are examples of this part.

Fifth Generation (Present and Beyond): Artificial Intelligence

What is artificial intelligence? It is the science and engineering of
making intelligent machines, especially intelligent computer programs.
It is related to the similar task of using computers to understand human
intelligence. One example of this is a robot like in the picture below.
