Boy and Girl Android

By Teresa Alvarez (August 2012)

About copyright: It’s really something great when people like what I have designed.
You can sell the final item or whatever you like, but it would be nice to reference
where you found the pattern!
If there is anything you do not understand or there are any mistakes, please, send
me a message!

As you can see in the way I write, English is not my first language. So, you could
come across some mistakes and grammatical inconsistencies. Sorry and my
apologies!

This file describes two different patterns for making the Google Android. The head
and body of the green android is worked in one piece. The head and body of the pink
one are worked independently and then they are joined together.

ABOUT YARN:

Green Android: 1 skein of Keops (Stop): 100 gr. = 230m, some white scraps (eyes
and neck)
Pink Android: 4 skeins (bulky acrylic yarn) (40gr. = 50 meters).

ABOUT GAUGE:
It is not important, as far as you are consistent with your tension.

ABOUT HOOK:
Green Android: 3mm hook
Pink Android: 4 mm hook.
Remember that when making amigurumis, stitches should be tight.

YOU WILL NEED:

 Yarn for the android in green/pink and white.
 Two safety eyes to be used as arms’ joints.
 Stuffing.
 Foam blocks.
 Tapestry needle.

ABOUT CROCHET TERMS:

I’ve followed the US terminology.
Stitch: st
Chain: ch
Slip stitch: sl st
Single crochet: sc
FLO: Front Loop Only
BLO: Back Loop Only
Sc2tog: decreasing two sc (i.e., 2 st become 1)
Sc3tog: decreasing 3 sc (i.e. 3 stitches become 1)
Sc4tog: decreasing 4 sc (i.e. 4 stitches become 1)
Picot: ch3, sl st at the base of the 1st st.
NOTE: I’ve made all the decreases as invisible decreases

GREEN ANDROID:
ABOUT THE PATTERN:

All the pattern is worked in spirals, so do not join at the end/beginning of a

row.

Round 2: 2sc in next 6 st. (12st)
Fasten off, leave a long tail to sew the eye to the head.

Fasten off using tail to close hole.

Finishing touches

Sew eyes and antennae to the head and legs to the bottom.
Notes about stuffing and shaping

The android can be stuff as usual, but I’ve found that a good way to keep the shaping
clear and neat is to use some foam at the bottom and the neck. I’ve also used it at
the body (cylinder) and then I’ve put some stuffing in the middle. I’ve sewn the legs
through the foam to keep it in place. See the photos:
PINK ANDROID:
ABOUT THE PATTERN:

The pink android is worked using a chunkier yarn, so fewer rows are needed to
obtain the same size (well, mine is bigger than the green one!).

The way I’ve assembled the different parts is slightly different.

All the pattern is worked in spirals, so do not join at the end/beginning of a

row.

Antenna (make 2)
Using pink.
Round 1: magic ring, 6 sc (alternatively, 2 ch and 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook).
Round 2-5: sc in each st across.

Eyes (make 2)
Using white.
Round 1: magic ring, 6 sc (alternatively, 2 ch and 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook).
Fasten off, leave a long tail to sew the eye to the head.

Leg (make 2)
Using pink
(stuff legs as you work)
Round 1: magic ring, 6 sc (alternatively, 2 ch and 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook).
Round 2: 2sc in next 6 st, (12 sts)
Round 4-14: sc in each st across (12 sts)

Arm (make 2)
Using pink
(stuff legs as you work)
Round 1: magic ring, 6 sc (alternatively, 2 ch and 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook).

(place eye (to be used as joint) between rows 11 and 12)
Round 18: [sc2tog] repeat 6 times (6 sts)
Fasten off and weave ends.

Finishing: sewing the head and the body

Using the long white tail from the head and using whip stitch, sew together the head
and the body.
