IDP-444

Dispersant/Thinner

Description IDP- 444, beaded polymeric dispersant, provides efficient sediment and
mud removal from producing formations and gravel pack. IDP-444 is also
a highly effective mud thinner. IDP-444, polymeric dispersant, contains no
phosphates.

Applications/Functions y Disperses mud, sediment, and clay from the producing formation and
gravel pack in the screened interval.
y Reduces viscosity and gel strength of drilling fluids.

Advantages y Reduces development time

y Reduces pumping cost
y Increases well yield and capacity

Typical Properties y Appearance y White Microbead

y Ionic Character y Anionic
°
y pH of 1% aqueous solution @ 25 C y 6.5-7.5
y Solubility y Readily soluble in water
y Bulk Density y 0.8 g/cm3

Recommended As a Well Development Aid

Treatment
y Determine volume of water in screen area and double the calculated
volume to account for water in gravel pack and formation interface or
determine the static volume of water and add 50% excess.
y Once the water volume is determined, calculate the required treatment
volume of IDP-444 by the following formula:
IDP-444 (lb) = .011 x Water Volume (gal)

This equates to 5.5 lb of IDP-444 per 500 gallons of water.

y Mix thoroughly before introducing into well.
y The preferable application method utilizes a tremie line with the product
applied into the screened area.
y If necessary, the IDP-444/water solution may be poured into the well.
y Mixture should be thoroughly blended in well, then agitated using a
surge and swab, jetting, or other development technique repeatedly
every two hours for a period of up to 24 hours.
y Pump to waste until turbidity clears up and then connect well to
distribution system.

Recommended As a Mud Thinner/Dispersant (Water Well Applications)
Treatment
y Start by adding 0.5 lb of IDP-444 to 500 gallons of mud. Increase
(continued)
concentration until the desired viscosity is achieved. Concentration
should be increased to a maximum of 1.0 lb to 500 gallons of mud.
Horizontal Directional Drilling (H.D.D.)
y Add 0.25 to 0.75 lb of IDP-444 per 500 gallons of bentonite-based or
polymer-based drilling fluid to facilitate dispersion of aggressive clay
and shale.

Packaging IDP-444 is packaged in 10-lb (4.54-kg) plastic containers with re-sealable

flip top lids.
