Digital Library Proposal Short

This proposal seeks funding to establish a digital library system for Gindeberet Preparatory School. It notes that the school's existing library has limited and outdated reference materials that are insufficient for its student population. The proposal aims to boost the quality and quantity of reference materials through both physical books and a new digital library. It provides a timeline and budget of approximately $595,790 for purchasing computers, software, books and other equipment to set up the digital library system by March 27. The project coordinator will cover $410,000, so $185,790 is requested from donors.

1. Overview
The establishment of Gindeberet Senior Secondary School (GSSS) dates back to 1946 G.C
when it was first aimed to run grades 1‐6 at elementary level. Since 1982 G.C it was
promoted to comprehensive secondary school to include grades 7 & 8. In the late 1986
G.C, it reached at a level to enroll grade 10 students & momentarily extended to senior
secondary school level reaching grade 12. Since 2004 G.C, the then GSSS, is divided in to
two schools which are named Gindeberet Secondary School (9th & 10th) and Gindeberet
Preparatory School (11th & 12th). At this time these two splits have separate
administration & resources of their own.
Currently, Gindeberet Secondary School (GSS) has got a total number of 3,114 students
attending classes in 22 sections (9th) and 20 sections (10th) in two shifts. Gindeberet
Preparatory School (GPS) has got a total number of 1,600 students attending classes in
14 sections (11th) and 10 sections (12th) in two shifts.

Though it has been a paving road for education and the main source in producing
capable & competent scholars working worldwide, GSSS has always been forgotten by
the fruits it has produced for many years. Apart from the normally going system run by
government, it is generally neglected by many of its former students now engaged in
many professional carriers. The schools (both GSS & GPS) have limited reference books
at their library that doesn’t meet students’ ratio. Moreover, both libraries in the two
schools have no such quality reference materials that are up to date and which are the
keys for students’ success in exams and even good inputs at the levels of colleges &
universities.
2. Objective
The objective of this project work is stated as:‐
9 To boost the content of old libraries of GSS & GSS
9 To install digital library system for GPS
9 To increase the number of students joining higher education by empowering
their work performance
9 To avail better reference materials for teachers and other staffs
9 To create a strong relationship between former students & the schools
3. Scope of the project
The current problem facing the two schools (GSS & GPS) needs consecutive approaches
to be addressed. A phase by phase approach is needed to address the problems. The
scope of this project is limited to boost the content of the two libraries by both hard
copy as well as digital reference materials. Taking this in to consideration, hard copy
reference materials for both GSS & GPS is needed as much as possible. But the digital
library system implementation is limited to GPS as a pilot project.
