How to Make a Fortune Teller Lesson Plan

Objective:
Students will be able to learn and pronounce their peers’ names and an interesting fact
about them.

Lesson Timeframe:
5 minutes (can be repeated overtime)

Required Materials:
- Paper
- Markers/Pencils
- Demonstration Fortune Teller
- Copy of Instructions

Outline:

Introduction:
One by one, ask the students if they can go down the row of people in the room and tell us every
person’s name and their favorite ice cream flavor.

Activity:
Distribute a blank sheet of paper and a copy of the instructions, to each student. Demonstrate
how to fold the paper into the fortune teller shape using the demonstration fortune teller. Go
through the directions one-by-one and fold the paper to create the fortune teller. After the tellers
are finished, have each student come up with 4 categories of “get to know you” questions. (use
demonstration teller as an example.) Then have them come up with 2 questions for each category
and fill in their fortune tellers using the questions and categories they came up with.

Closure:
Demonstrate how to use your finished fortune teller by using a student as a volunteer. Have your
student try out your fortune teller and ask them one of your “get to know” you question from the
demonstration fortune teller. Reiterate the purpose of the activity by mentioning what a fun and
easy way this makes it to get to know other people.
