4 Device Function
4.1 Three-stage directional overcurrent protection with undervoltage blocking
The device is configured with directional overcurrent protection with undervoltage blocking, which include
stage 1 overcurrent protection (OC1), stage 2overcurrent protection (OC2) and stage 3 overcurrent protection
(OC3),each stage current setting and delay time setting can be set independently. By setting the control word, we
can decide to apply or quit the voltage element and direction element.
Inter-phase Power direction element of three-segment current protection adopts 90°wiring mode, and
compares the phases of Ia and Ubc, Ib and Uca, Ic and Uab, its action equation is shown as follows(Ia and Uab for
example):

Ubc
 75 0  Arg j
 75 0
Ia  e
In the formula, φ is maximum sensitive angle, take φ =-45°(Inter-phase power direction sensitive angle value
is set to 1) or φ =-30° (Inter-phase power direction sensitive angle value is set to 0).
The schematic diagram of three-stage directional overcurrent protection with undervoltage blocking is shown
in figure 4-1.

7
WGB-611A Line protection device

Figure 4-1Schematic diagram of three-stage directional overcurrent protection with undervoltage blocking
4.2 Overcurrent accelerating protection
The device is configured with independent overcurrent accelerating protection, we can select accelerated
mode by means of setting the protection setting[Opt_OC_Accel] (1 denotes accelerated tripping before automatic
reclosing, 0 denotes accelerated tripping after automatic reclosing).Accelerated tripping before automatic
reclosing is generally used to protect radial lines with pieces of lines of the levels of voltage class under 35kV. It
can get rid of the fault rapidly, and correct the nonselective action by automatic reclosing.Accelerated tripping
after automatic reclosing is that lines are equipped with selective protection and automatic reclosing, when line
fault happens, protection trip selectively and then automatic reclosing, when manual switching-onto-fault or
automatic reclosing-onto-fault, past-accelerating protection trip non-preference, accelerate getting rid of the fault
rapidly.
The device has been set independent current setting and corresponding delay time setting of overcurrent
accelerating protection. Compared with the traditional protection, the configuration of protection is more flexible.
The schematic diagram of overcurrent accelerating protection is shown in figure 4-2.

Figure 4-2 Schematic diagram of overcurrent accelerating protection

4.3 Overload protection
The device is configured with overload protection function, by setting the strap “En_OvLd”, we can enable it

or not. By setting protection setting “En_OvLd_Trip ”, we can choose to trip or alarm (“0” denotes alarm, and “1”

denotes trip). The schematic diagram of overload protection is shown in figure 4-3.

8
WGB-611A Line protection device

Figure 4-3 Schematic diagram of overload protection

4.4 Three-stage zero-sequence directional overcurrent protection
In the small current grounding system, when ground fault occurs in the system, the zero-sequence current of
ground fault point is equal with capacitive current, and the amplitude is very small, it is difficult to guarantee its
selectivity using zero sequence overcurrent relay to protect the ground fault. The devices connected each other
through the network, and share information with other device, adopt the method of network small current fault
line selection to acquire grounding interval through the upper computer. The zero-sequence current for fault line
detection must be external input, namely user must provide device with the zero sequence current from external
input, can’t use the self-produced zero sequence current.
In the ungrounded system or small resistance grounding system, grounding zero-sequence currents is
relatively large;device can use the directly tripping method. Device is configured with three-stage zero-sequence
overcurrent protection, among which the stage 3 zero-sequence overcurrent protection can choose to trip or alarm,
the zero sequence current can choose self-produced zero-sequence current, or the zero-sequence current
introduced from the zero-sequence CT(the control word [Opt_3I0 mode] in menu “SETTING_SET”set to “0”
means the zero-sequence current is adscititious, "1" means zero-sequence current is self-produced).
Three-stage zero-sequence protection can choose whether blocking protection by zero-sequence voltage
direction by means of control word [En_Dir_ZeroOCn].
For the ungrounded system, direction sensitive angle is 90°, for the small resistance grounding system, the
sensitive angle is -135°(the angle refers to the included angle between the self-produced3U0 and 3I0), range of
motion is 150  and error is less than ±5  . In the menu “SETTING_SET”, we can set the [Opt_GND mode]
(neutral grounding mode: "0" denotes the neutral point ungrounded system, "1" denotes the neutral grounding via
low resistance).
The Inter-phase power direction element of the three-segment current voltage direction protection take
advantage of 3I0 and 3U0, its action equation is:

3U 0
 750  Arg j
 750
3I 0  e
In the formula, φ is maximum sensitive angle, take φ =90°or φ =-135°. The schematic diagram is shown in

figure 4-4.

4.5 Zero-sequence overcurrent accelerating protection
The device is configured with zero-sequence overcurrent accelerating protection. we can choose accelerated
tripping before automatic reclosing or after automatic reclosing. The device has been set independent
zero-sequence current setting and corresponding delay time setting for zero-sequence accelerating
protection.Compared with the traditional protection, the protection configuration is more flexible. The schematic
diagram is shown in figure 4-5.

Figure 4-5 Schematic diagram of zero-sequence overcurrent accelerating protection

4.6 Under-voltage load shedding protection
The device is configured with under-voltage load shedding protection function, and by setting the strap
[En_UVLS], we can enable it or not. Only when the breaker is closed or there is current in any one phase line
(I>0.05A), can we enable this function. VT fuse failure block under-voltage load shedding protection real time.
The schematic diagram of under-voltage load shedding protection is shown in figure 4-6.

10

Figure 4-6 Schematic diagram of under-voltage load shedding protection

4.7 Under-frequency load shedding protection
When there is current in any one phase line (I>0.05A), the protection can be enabled. The protection is
configured with undervoltage blocking and frequency rate change blocking. When there is fault in the system and
the frequency decreases so rapid that exceed the protection setting [df/dt_UFLS],the under-frequency load
shedding protection will be blocked instantaneously. The automatic reclosing will be blocked when the
under-frequency load shedding protection action. The schematic diagram of under-frequency load shedding
protection is shown in figure 4-7.

4.8 Automatic reclosing
The device is configured with automatic reclosing function. When the breaker is in closed position and there
is no external blocking, after 20s, the function will be fully charged. Automatic reclosing starts when the breaker
changes from closed position to open position. After starting, if it doesn’t meet the automatic reclosing condition
in 10 seconds, the function will discharge. There are three reclosing means:1-no check; 2-line-dead check (turn to
synchronism check automatically when there is voltage); 3-synchronism check. In the reclosing process, if you
need to judge synchronism and the extracting voltage is phase voltage, the input corresponding phase voltage
should be not less than 30V, if the extracted voltage is line voltage, the input corresponding line voltage should be
not less than 80V.
The blocking conditions of automatic reclosing are:
(1) Stage 1 overcurrent trip (under the circumstance that the control word[En_OC1-BLK_AR] is enabled); (2)
Overload trip; (3) Undervoltage load shedding trip; (4) Under-frequency load shedding trip; (5) Remote control
tripping; (6) Past closed position relay returns; (7) Control loop abnormal;(8) Spring does not store energy; (9)
Binary input [Block AR] is energized;(10) Line VT fuse failure alarm.
The schematic diagram of automatic reclosing is shown in figure 4-8.

4.9 Manual synchronization

When the binary input [Manual Sync] (n211) is energized and the circuit breaker is in the open
position, circuit breaker can be closed after the delay time when meet the conditions of the manual synchronization.
The device is adaptive for [line-dead check] or [synchronism check]. Check the voltage on both sides,it is allowed
to close circuit breaker when there is no voltage on either side, it turns to [synchronism check] when there is
voltage on both sides. If the extracted voltage is phase voltage, the line-dead setting is 18V, if the extracted
voltage is line voltage, the line-dead setting is 30V. During the synchronization check process, if the angle
difference between the extracted voltage Ux and the corresponding phase bus voltage is less than the setting value
[Angle_SyncChk_MC], closing circuit breaker is allowed. The no voltage or synchronization delay is fixed at 5s,
if circuit breaker can not be closed for 10s, it will return.
After the switch is tripped, in order to prevent the circuit breaker to be manual closed to fault again before
the binary input [Manual closing] disappears, device set up a manual closing timer, after 10 s, device is marked
with charging sign and dispark manual closing function. When the binary input [Spring not-E] is energized, the
manual synchronization function is blocked.
The condition of manual closing timer reset: 1. The binary input [Manual closing] is persistent energized for
10s; 2. Binary input [Manual closing] is energized before manual closing charging finished;3. manual
synchronization outputs; 4. Manual synchronization starting returns.
The manual closing timer start timing when the above conditions do not satisfy.

device drive standby relay output 1 to act, user can configure the six standby relay outputs
respectively according to the need, the output can be configured as momentary or maintained
output.

In the“Set output”interface, each standby relay output correspond to a16-bit hexadecimal number, which is
divided into the low byte “n Drv_L”(for tripping, n=1~6) and high byte “n Drv_H” (for alarm, n=1~6), from right
to left, the hexadecimal number is from D0 to D15respectively. For example:

Each bit of the 16-bit hexadecimal number corresponds to four different protection functions, and each
protection function corresponds to a data. Specific corresponding relation is shown in the following table:

When users need to configure multiple protection functions and these protection functions are in the same
hexadecimal bit, the user should enter the sum of the corresponding values of these protection functions.
For example: If the users need standby relay output1 contact to act when “OC1Trip”, “OC2Trip”, or
“OC_Accel Trip” , and need standby relay output 3 contact to act when “OvLd Alarm” , users can configure refer
to the following method:
Check the table above and we can find that “OC1Trip”, “OC2Trip”, “OC_Accel Trip” are all on the D0-bit
and the corresponding values are 0x01, 0x02, 0x08, “OvLd Alarm” is on the D9-bit and the corresponding value is
0x08. Then: D0 =0x01+0x02+0x08 = 0x0B, D9 = 0x08.So, "1 Drv_L" should be set to "0000000B", "3 Drv_H"
should be set to"00000080",press , key to select standby relay which need to be modified, press , key to
move the cursor to select the bit that need to be modified, and press “+”,“-” key to increase or decrease the size of
the data, then press “ESC” key and save the modification.

the right of“Reset_L” correspond to the reset mode of the six standby relay outputs respectively. From right to left,
they are D0-bit, D1-bit, D2-bit, D3-bit, D4-bit and D5-bit. D0-bit corresponds to the reset mode of standby relay
output 1, D2-bit corresponds to the reset mode of standby relay output 2, and so on. When one bit is set to “0”, it
indicates that the reset mode of the standby relay output is “instant mode”. That is when the corresponding
protection act, the standby relay contact act, and when the corresponding protection return, the standby relay
contact return automatically. When one bit is set to “1”, it indicates that the reset mode of the standby relay output
is “Manual mode”. That is when the corresponding protection act, the standby relay contact act, and when the
corresponding protection return, the standby relay contact don’t return until user press “RES” to reset the standby
relay output.
“OUTPUT_REVERT”: Six standby relay outputs revert to default configuration, when leaving factory, the six
standby relay outputs have been configured as “0”, and that is, the standby relay outputs
are not associated with each protection.
