SCHOOL SELECTION PROCEDURE IN GHANA 2023.

The selection process will begin on August 23, 2023 and end on September 4, 2023.

2023 BECE and Guidelines for Selecting Schools

● Candidates must select Six (6) schools and rank them in order of preference,
with the 1st being the most preferred choice.
● Candidates must select programmes and residential status for each choice of
school.
● Candidates must select a compulsory day school as the 6th choice within 16km
of the JHS attended or choose a boarding school from the list of schools in
Appendix 3.
● Candidates must select 5 schools (1 Category A, 2 Category B and at least 2
Category C) from Appendix “4” for a consideration of 2nd placement if they miss
out on all their initial six (6) choices.

Restrictions

● BECE candidates cannot choose more than one (1) School from Category A.
● BECE candidates cannot select more than two (2) schools from Category B.
● BECE candidates may select five (5) schools from Category C and One (1) from
Category D (Day) or Appendix 3 (Special Boarding).
● Candidates who wish to offer purely TVET Programmes must select all six (6)
TVET Institutes from CATEGORY A, B and C as Day or Boarding.
● Candidates who wish to offer programme choice in relation to future job
prospects such as Engineers, Physicians, Astronauts etc. must select
STEM/Science in all their choices from Categories A, B & C as Day or Boarding.

Candidates and parents must note that it is not compulsory to choose schools from
category A especially if your performance does not match the competition for such
schools. For instance, if you cannot make 7 to 9 once in the BECE, do not be tempted
to choose such schools as your first choice.
