Both Malouf and Monroe’s principles of design indicate the need to develop a design blueprint along

some basic elements of design. They concur that:

 design must have a focus;

 design must consider the use of space;

 design must consider and reflect the flow of movement.

From these basic principles, then the aesthetics of design can then be developed and this should take
into consideration more technical awareness of the line of composition, form, color, texture, pattern,
dominance, scale, rhythm, harmony.

Using these ideas as a blueprint enables any event manager to consider how to start creating an event
environment. In both texts there is a wealth of ideas and examples of how to create event settings and
the uses to which the above design principles can be put. They tell us how event design can be carried
out and place design in a central position for event management, as an essential and integral tool.
