Gargya, Vridha Garga, Garga and Gargi are referred to in illustrious works like Brihat Samhita of Varaha Mihira and Hora Ratna of Bala Bhadra Mishra. These names also find mention in our various puranas. While Gargya is believed to be the ancient most of these four names, Gargi appears to bea post-Mauryan figure and hence the youngest of these four of the remaining two Vridha Garga difinitely belonged to the age of Parasar, Veda Vijasa and Lord Krishna. Garga might be one of the descendants of Vridha Garga in the same way as Veda Vyasa was the descendant of sage parasar. It will not be out of place to mention here that Garga Muni is claimed by the Jains to be a Jain Muni. One thing is clear that Gargya and Garga were definitely two great ancient sages otherwise surnames of Garga and Gargya would not have continued. Surnames Parasar, Bhargava, Maitreya, Shandilya, Kaundiya, Garga and Gargya are yet retained in Northern and Central parts of India. A deeper study of ancient texts leave us in no doubt thatmany of the principles visualised by Garga were later on followed by Meena Raj, Yavaneshwar and Sphujidhwaja in their their Yavan Jatakas, Bharanam, In Hora Ratna of Bala Bhadra Mishra authored during reign of Shah Jahan adequate representation is given to Garga, Kashyapa, Vridha Yavan or Meena Raja followed by Sarvali of Kalyan Varma and Hora Sara of Prithuyasas. These are adequate textual proofs in support of the fact that Garg influenced most the course of Hindu Astrology at least till the 17th century A.D. even in the latter part of the 19th century A.D. Jeevanath Jha in his Bhava Prakasa and Bhava Kutuhalam depended on same of the principles evolved by Garga. Tris strange that nobody has tried to compile works Garga in a single book in a systematic manner, So called Garga Samhita vailable in the market is a pure devotional book on life of lord Krishna. It has got nothing to do with astrology. Through help of Hora-Ratna of Bala Bhadra Mishra and various works of H.N. Kative and some other authorities. I have collected samskrita slokas of Garga on natal astrology and have then tendered their Hindi and English translations, The book comprises three chapters. Chapter one deals with special combinations on infant mortality, longevity, Raja Yoga, Dhana Yoga etc. Chapter ewo deals with effects of house-lords occupying various houses. Chapter three deals with effects of nine planets occupying various houses of a birth chart. It concludes with effects of a child born in nine star groups from the star of his parents and brothers. The book also bears special notes at the required places. Effects of conjunctions of planets ranging from 2 to 7 in Lagna and other eleven Bhavas as discussed in Garga Hora (English) edited by Late r. Santhanam have not been included in the present work as on check up it was found that the entire matter appertained to Vridha yavan (also known as Meena Raja)and never to Garga vide page 470 to 707, chapter9, Hora Ratna Part-2 edited by Dr. Muralidhar chaturvedi, Publication Motilal Banarsi Dass.
