einer Arbeit iiber die Gattung Phippsia (Bot. Notiser (1924) 126-134)
bezweifelt HOLMBERG die Zugeh6rigkeit von Ph. Wilczekii zur Gattung.
Meiner Ansicht nach kann es nicht zweifelhaft sein, daB HACKEL
seine Art mit Recht zu Phippsia gestellt hat. HOLMBERG hebt als ein
wesentliches Charakteristikum fur Philppsia hervor, daB das Hilum
schmal oval liinglich ist, wiihrend es bei Catabrosa punktf6rmig ist.
Auch nach diesem Merkmal gehort Ph. Werdermannii zur Gattung.
Die (selten aufgefundene) Frucht ist nicht ganz 11/2 mm lang, von
vorn gesehen im Umrit elliptisch mit Verschmiilerung nach der
Basis, dick, beiderseits (nach der Embryo-Seite stiirker) konvex,
nur am Embryo schwach konkav; Embryo bis fast 1/3 der Frucht
lang, Hilum Iinglich-oval, ca. 1/4 so lang als die Frucht. HOLMBERG
weist ferner darauf hin, daB die Deckspelze nach HACKEL bei Ph.
Wilczekii fuinfnervig ist. Die Nervatur der Deckspelze wechselt hier
wohl ebenso wie bei Ph. Werdermannii, denn an zwei Ahrchen von
Ph. WiZczekii fand ich eine dreinervige und eine zweinervige Deck-
spelze (der eine Seitennerv hier ganz undeutlich).

hic illic innovationes intravaginales dense congestac; foliorum lamina
rigida, linearis vel late linearis, apice contracta, pungenti-acuta, secus
medianum bene plicata, laevis, margine tantum scabra, 8-24 cm
longa, expansa 6-10(-11) mm lata, vagina in foliis ad basin culmi
aggregatis abbreviata, 2-4 cm longa, glabra, laevis, demum in fibros
soluta, vaginis superpositis, ligula margine brevissimo membranaceo
formata, vix ad 3/4 mm longa; foliorum culmeorum lamina 4L re-
ducta, vagina magis elongata, ligula aeque magis elongata, non-
nunquam ad 4 mm longa, membranacea; culmus brevior ad apicem
vel fere ad apicem vaginis inclusus. panicula excepta circ. 20 cm
altus vel et magis elongatus et superne longe exsertus, ad 50 cm
altus, striatus, laevis, panicula 9 satis brevis, laxa, 9-12 cm longa,
rhachis et rami laeves, rami a basi divisi, ramuli ad nodos 4-5
subfasciculati, tenues breves, inferne nudi, paucispiculati, longiores
ad 4-5 cm longi, internodia inferiora 2-3 cm longa, panicula c
12-17 cm longa, magis contracta, densior, rami ad circ. 3 cm longi,
plerumque a basi spiculigeri, internodium infimum ad fere 5 cm
longum; spiculae plerumque ? violaceo-variegatae, 2-florae cum
processu parvo axis vel raro et 3-florae; spicula 9: glumae vacuae
