What is a Memorial?
• In a moot court competition, a memorial is also knows as the written
submissions which will be presented before the judge.
• In a Moot Court competition, oral arguments take place but the
written submissions are also important to score marks.
• A memorial will be maximum 30 pages and the Arguments Advanced
section should be around 9 pages.
• Write in the Footer Memorial for the Petitioner and the page number
• Please see the next slide carefully to see how to write the index of
authorities.
STATEMENT OF JURISICTION
• This is a VERY IMPORTANT part of the Memorial. Please write this
part properly.
“It is most humbly submitted in this memorandum that the petitioner has approached the
________ Court under Article___________ of the Constitution of Indica to show that the petition
filed is maintainable and that the Fundamental Rights of the petitioner has been violated. The
petitioners humbly submit before the jurisdiction of this Hon’ble Court and accepts that it has the
power and authority to preside over the present case.”
STATEMENT OF FACTS
• It is the facts of the case given in short. All the facts and
circumstances in the case are written in short here.
• It should be maximum 1.5 page.
PRAYER
• The prayer basically means what exactly do you want the judge to
give you.
• What are you requesting the judge to give you.
• Basically it means What judgement do you want the judge to pass?
• For example- In the moot problem the first issue is– “Is the PIL
maintainable?”
• Appellant will write in the prayer the PIL is maintainable.
• Respondents will write the opposite
