Administration Worcestershire Health and Care Qa NHS Trust PATIENT GRouP DIRECTION (PGD) FoR SopIUM CHLORIDE 0. -9% INJECTION FOR PARENTERAL ADMINISTRATION YOU MUST BE AUTHORISED BY NAME, UNDER THE CURRENT VERSION OF THIS PGD BEFORE Yo U ATTEMPT TO WORK ACCORDING TO IT Clinical Condition = Indication Inclusion criteria An isotonic solution used to maintain the patency of intravenous and subcutaneous cannulae or for reconstitution of injections : ad fe Patients with an intravenous or subcutaneous cannula in situ who require a flushing agent: Prior to and after administration of individual drugs or fluids e.g blood, to avoid incompatibilities or to ensure that the complete dose is flushed through the cannula. OR to maintain cannula patency in between drug administration OR as a required diluent for medication | Exclusion criteria If any of the following apply the PGD CANNOT be used | and the patient must be [teferred toa prescriber Cautions - Seek further advice from doctor Patients who have any evidence of extravasations, pain, discomfort, swelling, soreness, phlebitis or reddening around the cannula site prior to administration of sodium chloride 0.9%. Also completed recognised training in intravenous administration of medicines 7 with updates every two years Continuing education & | The practitioner should be aware of any change to the training recommendations for the medicine listed.
