Dear Faculty members,

The Exam Committee would like to kindly request you to start working on your
midterm exam question papers. Please find attached the template for midterm exam question papers.
Kindly ensure that the file name is adjusted as necessary with your module code, semester (II, IV, VI,
VIII), and Programme. The template has the proper page sizing A4 (top/bottom 1” and left/right 0.75”
margins), heading (to be edited with your module details), and footer (to be edited with your module
code). Please use this template -- do not use old ones -- and put your questions and formats within it.
Suggested formats are given for the instructions and a variety of question types. Feel free to use or
replace these as you see fit. CE Faculty, please ensure that your midterm exam papers are on par with,
but not identical to the papers for the day students (the exams are at different times).
These papers should also be submitted to your program leaders and moderated/peer reviewed within
your department. On the CE question paper itself, in the top area below the logo, below "Spring 2023",
can you please indicate "CE Semester II, IV, VI, VIII”.

In the template, you will need to replace the Semester and the Module code and title in the Header, and
the module code and number of pages in the Footer. If you have any difficulty with it, please feel free to
contact me. Your file should be saved in the following format:

Midterm Module code_Sem_Program_Spring_2023.doc

Here is an example:
Midterm_LIT104_SemII_EngStudies_Spring_2023.doc
For CE: midterm_ LIT104(CE) _SemII_ EngStudies_Spring_2023.doc

The full mark for the exam is generally 50 unless you have some reason to do so otherwise, and the
weighting for this exam in our Continuous Assessment is general 10-20% or as indicated in your work
plans. Students will be writing the papers for 90 minutes. While setting the paper, please keep the time
and weightage at the back of your mind. Your questions should have a mix of the levels of Bloom's
Taxonomy with more emphasis on certain levels as appropriate to the semester the students are in.
While simpler objective questions can be there (multiple choice, fill in the blank, etc.), they generally
carry less weight than essay questions.

The question papers should be submitted to programme leaders by Monday 10th April (or earlier as
decided by PLs). Each PL should print a single sample copy of each paper and bring it for quality
assurance/moderation at group meetings within the programme as would seem most logical. PLs,
Subject Coordinators and respective tutors should ensure that the security of the printed and soft copies
is maintained. Ultimately, each QP should have been reviewed by at least 3 people. In-person meetings
are necessary - a round-robin way of peer reading of each others' QPs is suggested. The module tutor
can assemble the feedback and make corrections and submit back to the PLs. The absolute final
deadline by which PLs should send all the question papers to the exam committee is Friday, April 14,
4:00 PM. Please do not submit any question papers that have not been reviewed and moderated. The
checklist for question papers peer review and moderation is also attached. The management would like
to see high-quality question papers and will be scrutinizing these for examples of good practices and
areas of improvement. Please DO NOT assign "Write Short Notes" type questions.
Such questions lack clarity and specificity.
The midterm exams will be from April 24 – 28 (Monday-Friday). There will be no regular or CE classes
on Saturday, April 22nd. Normal classes will resume on April 29th for CE students and May 1st for
regular students.

Thank you all for your cooperation,

Exam Committee
