Stative verb หรือ State verb คือ คำกริยาแสดงสภาวะที่เกี่ยวกับ ความรู้สึก, ความคิด, ความสัมพันธ์,
ประสาทสัมผัส, สภาวะความเป็นอยู่ และ การวัดหรือการประมาณค่า เรียกได้ว่าเป็นกริยาที่เป็นนามธรรม หรือ
Abstract verb ซึ่งคำกริยาในกลุ่มนี้โดยปกติแล้วจะใช้ใน Simple Tense เท่านั้น และจะไม่ใช้ในรูปเติม –ing ใน
Continuous Tense สามารถแบ่งเป็น 6 ประเภทด้วยกัน ดังนี้
ประเภทของ Stative verbs ตัวอย่าง
1. คำกริยาแสดงประสาทสัมผัสการรับรู้ เช่น Feel (รู้สึก, คิดว่า), Hear - The spaghetti sauce smells so good.
(ได้ยิน), See (เห็น), Smell (ได้กลิ่น), Sound (เกิดเสียง), Taste (ได้รส, - I don’t fell that this is a good idea.

2. คำกริยาแสดงสภาวะทางความคิด เช่น Believe (เชื่อว่า), Doubt - She doesn’t believe me at all.
(สงสัย), Forget (ลืม), Know (รู้), Mean (มีความหมายต่อ…, มี - George understands Thai language well.
ความสำคัญต่อ…), Realize (รู้, สำนึก), Recognize (จำได้, รู้จัก),
Remember (จำได้), Suppose (ทึกทักเอาเอง), Think (คิดว่า),
Understand (เข้าใจ)
3. คำกริยาแสดงความเป็นเจ้าของ เช่น Belong (เป็นของ), Own (มี, เป็น - This book belongs to him.
เจ้าของ), Have (มี), Possess (มี, เป็นเจ้าของ) - I don’t have a spare shirt.
4. คำกริยาแสดงอารมณ์หรือความรู้สึก เช่น Adore (ชื่นชอบ), Astonish - I adore you.
(ทำให้ประหลาดใจ), Enjoy (สนุก), Envy (อิจฉา), Fear (กลัว), Hate - I don’t mind sharing my room.
(เกลียด), Like (ชอบ), Love (รัก), Mind (รังเกียจ), Please (พอใจ),
Prefer (ชอบ), Surprise (ประหลาดใจ), Wish (อยาก)
5. คำกริยาแสดงการวัดหรือการประมาณค่า เช่น Contain (บรรจุ), Cost - That purse costs 900 baht.
(คำนวณราคา), Equal (ทำให้เท่ากัน, เท่ากับ), Measure (วัดปริมาณ), - I only weighed 45 kg. when I was in high
Weigh (น้ำหนัก) school.
6. คำกริยาแสดงสภาวะอื่น ๆ เช่น Be (is, am, are), Exist (มีอยู่), Owe - Life cannot exist without water.
(เป็นหนี้), Require (ต้องการ), Seem (ดูเหมือนว่า) - We owe her a lot.
