(A) UGCRegulationsforadmissiontoResearchProgrammes
Visvesvaraya Technological University has adopted the following clauses of UGC Regulations
foradmission to VTU Research Programmes conducted at the VTU approved Research Centres
fromacademicyear2020-21.
Reference: 1. University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of
M.Phil./Ph.D. Degrees)Regulations,2016,datedSthMay, 2016.

o Clause 1.2 They (These Regulations) shall apply to every University established or
incorporatedby or under a Central Act, a Provincial Act, or a State Act , every affiliated
college, and everyInstitutionDeemedtobeaUniversityunderSection3ofUGCAct,1956.
o Clause 5.4
HigherEducationInstitutes(HEIs)asmentionedinClause1.2shalladmitcandidatesbyatwostag
eprocessthrough:
o Clause 5.4.1 An Entrance Test shall be qualifying with qualifying marks as 50%. The syllabus
ofthe Entrance Test shall consist of 50% of research methodology and 50% shall be

o Clause 2. The following proviso shall be added to the clause 5.4.1 of the University
GrantsCommission(MinimumStandardsandProcedureforawardofM.Phil/Ph.DDegrees)Regulati
ons, 2016 “provided that a relaxation of 5 % of marks (from 50% to 45%) shall beallowed for
the candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy layers)/Differently-
abledcategoryintheentranceexaminationconductedbytheUniversities.

o Clause 2. The following proviso shall be added to the clause 5.4.2 of the University
GrantsCommission(MinimumStandardsandProcedureforawardofM.Phil/Ph.DDegrees)Regulati
ons,2016.
“Provided that for selection of candidates, a weightage of 70 % to the entrance test and 30 %
totheperformanceofintheinterview/viva-voceshallbegiven".

(B) VTU — ETR result announcementand Admission procedure adopted by VTU to ResearchProgrammes
(1) The Candidates who have secured 50 marks and above under general category and, 45 marks
andabove under reservation category in VTU —ETR conducted for 100 marks, are eligible to appear
for thePre-RegistrationInterview.
(2) The eligibility of Candidates for admission to Research programmes shall be notified after
addingthe marks secured in the Pre-Registration Interview with VTU-ETR marks as detailed in
reference:3above.
(3) The allotment of the Research Supervisor/s shall be based on the merit decided by the sum
ofVTU-ETR marks and Pre-Registration Interview marks, and availability of the vacancy position
with theResearchSupervisors.
