Piping/Conduit/Ducting
Elbows that fail to import will be reported in a *.log file located next to the *.c3rvt file used to import
them. This report will contain the EdgeWise Id of the elbow—at the time of export—and the reason it
did not import into Revit. As of version 5.1.2, Pipe, Conduit and Ducting elbows should import as they
appear in EdgeWise, including bend radius. It is recommended to check each of the imported elbows
and make sure that they meet your specifications.
Additionally a small mass object will be placed where the elbow would have been placed. In Revit, mass
objects are invisible by default. To view the mass objects you can either: click the light bulb icon—reveal
hidden elements button—located in the tool bar at the bottom left of Revit’s viewing area, or perform
the following steps:

Building
Sometimes Revit will join walls in an undesirable way. When loading building data you will have the
option to allow or disallow Revit to automatically form wall joins.
In addition to importing wall data from EdgeWise, the Revit Plugin will also import level data. If there is
a naming conflict between an imported EdgeWise level and an existing Revit level, then the EdgeWise
level will be discarded and any imported EdgeWise wall will use the existing Revit level instead.
Any window data being imported from EdgeWise will be imported as a Family: Fixed window.
Structural
The Revit Plugin will import structural data that successfully exported from EdgeWise. Revit 2015+
should import the EdgeWise structural objects as they appear in EdgeWise, except for Vertical Structural
Tee, Channel and Angle Iron Columns which are supported in Revit 2016 and later. Older Revit versions
may take liberties with snapping these objects as they see fit. The following objects should successfully
import into Revit:
• Vertical Columns:
o Concrete:
▪ Rectangular.
▪ Round.
o Wood:
▪ Rectangular.
o Steel:
▪ W-Section (I-Beam).
▪ Round.
▪ Rectangular Tube.
▪ C-Channel (Revit 2016+)
▪ Structural Tee (Revit 2016+)
▪ Angle Iron (Revit 2016+)
• Non-vertical/non-horizontal Braces:
o Concrete:
▪ Rectangular.
o Wood:
▪ Rectangular.
o Steel:
▪ C-Channel.
▪ Round.
▪ Rectangular Tube.
▪ Angle Iron.
▪ Structural Tee.
▪ W-Section (I-Beam).
• Horizontal Beams:

Add Database
Use this tool to import the points associated with each EdgeWise building object. All other building
specific tools will be disabled until these points are imported.
Color: Intensity
The “Color: Intensity” tool displays points from the EdgeWise database for the selected EdgeWise
object. These points will be colored by their scan intensity.
Color: Distance
The “Color: Distance” tool displays points from the EdgeWise database for the selected EdgeWise
object. These points will be colored by their distance from the front and back faces of the wall.
Clear Points
This tool will clear out any EdgeWise points that are currently being displayed.
Create dxf
This tool allows you to save the points for a selected EdgeWise object in a .dxf file. This is particularly
useful for importing points into Revit’s family editor to use as a guide.
Refit Wall
This tool launches a dialog that allows the user to refit a selected EdgeWise wall using the imported
points. In order to refit a wall the Revit Plugin needs to gather points that fall on the wall. The tolerance
value adjusts how far away from the wall the points are allowed to be. You can display these points
4
using the display button located underneath the tolerance edit box. Green points represent the points
that will be included in the calculation. Red points represent the excluded points.
• Original Wall: replaces the selected wall with the original wall exported from EdgeWise.
• Best-fit, plumb Wall: replaces the wall with the best-fit, plumb wall that fits points gathered
using the tolerance value—explained above.
• As-built Face-Wall: replaces the selected wall with a Revit Face-Wall attached to a planar mass
created from the points gathered using the tolerance value—explained above. This allows the
Revit Plugin to created leaning walls.
Revit will try to automatically join walls together as they are created. If you want to disable this
behavior, uncheck the “Allow Wall Joins” checkbox before clicking the “Ok” button on the dialog.
