Food Vocabulary:

1. porridge: a dish consisting of oatmeal or another meal or cereal boiled in water or


milk.
2. barbecue: a meal or gathering at which meat, fish, or other food is cooked out of doors
on a rack over an open fire or on a special appliance.
3. maize: a Central American cereal plant that yields large grains (corn or sweetcorn) set
in rows on a cob. The many varieties include some used for stockfeed and corn oil.
4. maize meal: a relatively coarse flour made from maize or mealies in Southern Africa,
from the Portuguese milho.
5. oatmeal: meal made from ground oats, used in porridge, oatcakes, or other food.:
"medium Scottish oatmeal" "oatmeal porridge".
6. instant coffee: a beverage derived from brewed coffee beans that enables people to
quickly prepare hot coffee by adding hot water or milk to coffee solids in powdered or
crystallised form and stirring.
