HW#1 MATB24H3.

Due Friday, May 21 by noon (EST). Submission will be done via Crowdmark.

Read through Chapter 1, Sections 1-5.

Write up solutions to Problems 1.4, 1.6, 1.8, 2.5, 3.3, 3.6, 3.7 in Chapter 1. In
problem 3.3 parts (a) and (b), since a basis is not specified, you should assume you
are asked to write down the matrices with respect to the standard bases for Rn .

Your proofs need to be rigorous and carefully written. It is not the reader’s job to
figure out what you have in mind, but for you to present your proof in a way which
is understandable to the reader.

I would also recommend you solve Problems 1.2, 1.3, 1.7, 2.2, 2.3, 2.6, 3.2, 3.4, 5.5,
5.7, but do not hand in your solutions.
