4.6 Oil specifications

It is strongly recommendedto use Atlas Copco branded lubrication oils for both
compressorand engine.

Only use synthetic compressor oil.

High-quality, mineral, hydraulic or synthesizedhydrocarbon oil with rust and oxidation inhibitors,
anti-foam and anti-wear properties is recommended.
The viscosity grade should correspondto the ambient temperature and ISO 3448, as follows:

Type of lubricant Compressor Engine

b e tw e e n-2 5 o C a n d -1 0 o C P A R OILS
b e tw e e n-1 O o Ca n d + 3 Oo C PAROITS P A R OIL15W 4O
b e tw e e n + 3 O" C a n d + 5 0 o C PAROIL568 P A R OIL15W 40

Never mix synthetic with mineraloil.

I Remark:
When changingfrom mineralto syntheticoil (or the other way around),you will
need to do an extra rinse:

After doing the complete change procedure to synthetic oil, run the unit for a
few minutes to allow good and complete circulation of the synthetic oil.
Then drain the synthetic oil again and fill again with new synthetic oil. To set
correct oil levels, proceed as in normal instruction.

PAROILfrom Atlas Copco is the ONLY oil tested and approvedfor use in all enginesbuilt into Atlas
Copco compressorsand generators.
Extensive laboratory and field endurancetests on Atlas Copco equipment have proven PAROILto
match all lubricationdemandsin varied conditions.lt meets stringentquality control specifications
to ensureyour equipmentwill run smoothly and reliably.
The quality lubricantadditivesin PAROILallow for extendedoil changeintervalswithout any loss in
performanceor longevity.
PAROILprovides wear protection under extreme conditions. Powerful oxidation resistance, high
chemical stability and rust- inhibiting additives hefp reduce corrosion, even within engines left idle
for extended periods.
PAROILcontains high quality anti-oxidantsto control deposits, sludge and contaminants that tend
to build up under very high temperatures.
PAROIL'sdetergentadditiveskeep sludgeforming particlesin a fine suspensioninsteadof allowing
them to clog your filter and accumulatein the valve/rockercover area.

4.8.3 Compressoroil and oil filter change

The quality and the temperatureof the oil determinethe oil change interval.
The prescribedinterval is based on normal operating conditions and an oil temperature of up to
1OOoC i.212 oFl (see section 4.5 Preventivemaintenance schedule for the compressor).
When operatingin high ambienttemperatures,in very dusty or high humidity conditions,it is
recommendedto change the oil more frequently.

In this case, contact Atlas Copco.

1 Run the compressor until warm. Close the outlet valve(s) {3} and stop the
compressor.Wait until the pressureis releasedthrough the automatic blow-
down valve. Unscrewthe oil filler plug (2) one turn. This uncoversa vent hole,
which permits any pressure in the system to escape.
z Drainthe compressoroil by removingall relevantdrain plugs {4). Catch the oil in
a drain pan. Screw out the filler plug (2) to speed up draining. After draining,
place and tighten the drain plugs (4).
3 Removethe oil filters (1), e.g. by meansof a specialtool. Catch the oil in a drain
pan'
4 Clean the filter seat on the manifold, taking care that no dirt drops into the
system. Oil the gasket of the new filter element.Screw it into place until the
gasket contacts its seat, then tighten one half turn only.
5 Fill the air receiveruntil the pointerof the oil level gauge is in the upper part of
the green area. Be sure that no dirt gets into the system. Reinstalland tighten
the filler plug.
