 He was born in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, on
December 24, 1963. He enrolled in the Architecture
course at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul,
but did not finish the course.

Humberto Gessinger is married to Adriane Sesti, an

architecture graduate he met in college, and with her
he has a daughter named Ana, born in 1992.

In 1984, together with friends from college, he formed the rock band
Engenheiros do Hawaii. In 1986 the band released its first album, "Longe
Demais das Capitais". The band was very successful in the 80s and 90s.
In 2008, the group decided to end its activities.

 The band's name came from a joke that the

curiosity: band members made with engineering students

from the same college as them, in 1985. The
name came about to satirize the engineering
students who walked around in surfer shorts,
with whom they had a certain rivalry.
