The Role of the Nation -State in Globalization

Basic Elements of a State
1. Territory is an area of land, sea, or space, belonging or connected to a particular
country, person, or animal. As a subdivision, a territory in most countries is an organized
division of an area na kinokontrol ng isang bansa ngunit hindi pormal na binuo sa, o
isinama sa, isang politikal na yunit ng bansang iyon, kung saan ang mga yunit
pampulitika ay may pantay na katayuan sa isa't isa and territory are often referred to by
words such as "provinces", "regions", or "states". In its narrower sense, it is "a
geographic region, such as a colonial possession, that is dependent on an external
government.
2. People is kinikilala ang buong katawan ng mga mamamayan of a jurisdiction invested
with political power natipon para sa mga layuning pampulitika.
3. Sovereign Power is the power of a state a gawin lahat ng necessary to govern itself such
as making, executing, and applying laws, imposing and collecting taxes; making war and
peace; and forming treaties or engaging in commerce with foreign nations.

 Nation- state role in globalization is complex.

Globalization is the word used to describe the fast growing interdependence of the
world economies, cultures and even ang populasyon na dala ng cross-border trade ng
mga goods and services, technology and flows of investmement, people and
information. In relation of nation state, ang globalisasyon ay hindi limited ang meaning,
but rather a complex one in our nation state. Lalo na sa paglipas ng panahon. Maraming
nababago and maraming naiimbento sa pagtagal ng panahon. We can’t really say na ang
globalization ang pang economy lang unlike noon, dahil in todays nation globalization
really is fast growing.
 Nation-states are divided by physical and economic boundaries, reduced barriers in
international commerce and communication are considered their potential threat.
 Sovereignty of individual nations is not abolished by expanded trade among countries,
instead globalization is a force that changed the way nation-states deal with one
another, particularly in the area of international commerce.

 Globalization has potential effects to globalization.

If we look on the positive side, globalization has potential effects to globalization .
through globalization nagbibigay ito sa lahat ng mga bansa ng access sa wider labor
pool. Through globalization also, many developing nations often gain access to jobs nan
a-outsource ng mas mayayamang bansa. For a globalized economy to exist, nations
must be willing to put their differences aside and work together. Dahil dito, ang pagtaas
ng globalisasyon ay naiugnay sa isang reduction—though not an elimination—of
conflict.

 Nation-states are challenged by multinational corporations to address the issue of

foreign direct investments to force nation-states to ascertain the allowable international
influence in their economies. A sense of interdependence is created by globalization
among nations to create among nations of differing economic strengths an imbalance of
power.
 The role of the nation-state in a global world is largely a regulatory one as the chief
factor in global interdependence
 In setting international commerce policies, isolated states are forced to engage to one
another, while nation-state’s domestic role is unchanged. Roles of some states were
diminished while others have exalted roles due to interactions of various economic
imbalances.
