Mall of Thrissur

to design a mini mall which goes with the site
location, context, user and can accomodate a
multiplex

A city known for its sacred sites and colorful festivals,
the cultural capital of Kerala. In this city there is
an annual festival held with great pomp and show,
the Thrissur Pooram.
The biggest and most celebrated Pooram festival in
India where more than two million people come to
attend and at the center stage of the festival are
elephants. Thrissur is known for its love for elephants
and the people who dwell this district consider them
self as great as the mighty animal itself.
The total area of the site is 2.2 acres. The idea is to
develop a mall that imbibes in the identity of the city
and the rich culture it has.

CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT
Facade Design
With the abundance of coconut tree, Kerala
has become an ideal locale for coir industry.
Incorporation of the letter T and the change in form of the elephants

Floor Plans
SITE PLAN
The ground floor comprises of an anchor shops,
a supermarket and 10 retail stores. A service cor-
ridor is provided on the back of the mall for each
floor which can also be utilised as a fire exit in
case of emergencies. In total there are 4 fire exits
located on the outskirts of the building. Similar
floor pattern is followed throught.

Total site area comes to 2.2 acres. The site is located in a developing commercial hub. The
site is easily accesible and there are no malls nearby. The land lays under mixed use. The
entrance to the site leads the user to both the dropoff and basement parking. There is a
service entry through the back of the mall. The malls total built up area is 25,293 sqm. It is
a G + 3 structure with a single basement which is for parking and building services. There
are two screens in the mall which can accomodate 234 pax/auditorium.

SECTIONS The basement parking can accomodate 115
cars and 42 bikes. The services areas are given
in the basement and the substation is placed to-
wards the rear of the building. Two washrooms
per floor for all genders are provided. Food
court is provided on the third floor with seperate
washrooms same as the multiplex.

About
The mall has 4 fire exits. The stairs act as a decorative element in the facade with
brick cladding. A person from inside the mall can observe the T form of the build-
ing via the glass panel roof that is provided, Interactive spaces are provided in the
landscape so that the users would not feel bored whilst arrival or departure from the
building, the visualization for the same is provided in the next page,

to design a primary and a pre-primary school
which goes with the site location, context,
and the user

Pune, also known as Poona is one of the most import-
ant industrial and educational hubs of India, with an
estimated population of 7.4 million as of 2020. Pune is
considered to be the cultural and educational capital of
Maharashtra state.
Pune is widely regarded to be the second major IT hub
and the most important automobile and manufacturing
hub of India. The site is surrounded by automotive in-
dustries, residential areas, and the National Institute of
Bank Management.
The total area of the site is 2.8 acres. The idea is to
develop a school that takes in the part of the automo-
tive industry and implement in the form and facade.

Shape Development
CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT
Virgil Exner was an automobile designer for numerous Amer-
ican companies, most notably Chrysler and Studebaker. Ex-
ner is widely known for the Forward Look he created for the
1955-1963 Chrysler products and his fondness of tailfins on
cars for both aesthetics and aerodynamics.

The shape of the building also compliments the exist-


ing vegetation in the site and creates a shaded area for
learning and interactive session. The concept of
Gurukula sysytem has been adapted to creating
spaces within and around the building so spaces
becomes more active and soothing.

SITE PLAN
The ground floor consists of the administrative
section along with three clasrooms belonging
to the students of standard 1, it also includes a
spacious library and locker rooms.

The first floor consists of the five clasrooms


belonging to the students of standard 2 and
3, it also includes a computer lab, an activity
room, a staff room, a storage room and a spa-
cious roof garden. Each classroom houses
40 students including seating for differently
abled students. The computer lab can house
40 students at a time. seperate washrooms are
provided for faculties.

The second floor consists of the five clasrooms
belonging to the students of standard 3 and 4,
it also includes an activity room, a staff room
and a storage room.

The third floor consists of the three clasrooms


belonging to the students of standard 5, it also
includes an activity room, a staff room, a stor-
age room and a very spacious multi-purpose
hall for co-curricular activities.

Total site area comes to 2.8 acres. The site is located in a developing residential hub. The
site is easily accesible and there are no schools nearby. The land lays under mixed use.
The thick vegetation on the site besides the road acts as a buffer from the road noise. The
entrance to the site leads the directly to the dropoff and then parking. The site is major-
ly covered with the Broome raintrees, and a few Trumpet flower trees. During summers,
these trees can play a major role in shading using their thick vegetation. First Floor Plan

It all started with an assignment in our
academic course, as an assignment I had
decided to make a short film. ‘Dhara’ was
shot in less than an hour, edited and sub-
mitted on the same day. There was quite
a good response to it. The response it
had recieved made me like the field more
and later on led me to work in the same.

I worked as both a production designer


and an assistant director for a few short
films. It was challenging on a proffesion-
al level at first, but then the work envi-

learning from the proffesionals have all
helped me understand and learn a lot in
such a short span. I believe that every sin-
gle field has its own hardwork and strug-
gles, and this feild has helped me realise
and learn what all it takes to stand in
the real world in terms of any proffesion.
