Western and Eastern Morality

Humans are gifted creatures. They were created with the ability to be
flexible when put in different situations. Among all creatures they are the only
ones that are capable of learning new information and storing them for use in
navigating the world. This gift of understanding of what is going on in their
surroundings and the world, it is easier for humans to determine what is right or
wrong. For instance, humans learn culture. Cultural norms help in shaping morality
therefore people of different culture have different approaches and decisions in
life.
Some cultures support
polygamy and same sex marriages
while others do not. In some Eastern
cultures, men and women adhere to
different standards. For example, in
Western countries, when a couple
are divorced they are allowed to get
married again. Members of LGBTQ
groups, especially in some states in

marry the person of same sex , live in the same house and are not mock or
disrespected in the streets because of their choices. In conservative eastern
countries such as China, Azerbaijan, or Brunei, those who identified themselves as
homosexuals are still experiencing unforgiving discrimination or subjected to
harsh punishments.
A husband cooking for their wives or who does the cleaning of the house
may be frown upon by traditionalist from Eastern countries. The aforementioned
tasks are expected to be perform by women regardless of her being a housewife
or a working woman. A woman who makes her husband do such thing is
considered domineering and is reflected upon as immoral as it “stepped into his
authority as a man”. On the other hand, western thinking does not conform to this
idea of identifying it as an immoral act with understanding that men and women
are equal, therefore they will share the tasks as partners.
Morals are held and agreed by all members of a certain culture. In most
cases, morals are backed up by rules, laws, and other types of sanctions. Those
who strictly adhere to living their life according to the moral teachings of the
community, the Church and the family, they earn the respect and admiration of
many. Law abiding citizens and those who agrees on the preferred morality reaped
honors, awards and the like. On the other hand, those who go on a different path
or those who violate moral standards are given negative evaluation or are called
immoral.
Below is a comparison between Western and Eastern Ethics that can help
you understand why people have different approaches in dealing with the general
problems and situations connected with the realities of life .
