Introduction/
Safety instructions
1 General information
1.1 Foreword
This user’s manual is intended to familiarise you with the machine and its designated areas of
application.
The user’s manual contains important information on operating the machine safely, correctly
and economically. Observing this information helps to avoid hazards, repair costs and
downtimes and increase the reliability and service life of the machine.
The user’s manual must always be available in a suitable place where the machine is installed.
The user’s manual must be read, understood and used by every person who is entrusted with
work with or on the machine, for example:
Safety first! Do not put the machine into operation before you have
read this user’s manual!
In addition to the binding regulations valid in the country of use and at the place of installation,
the recognised technical rules for safe, professional work are to be observed.

If the competition should endeavour to view this user’s manual, we expect the same fairness
from you which you also expect from your users in such cases.
Violations may lead to legal consequences and make you liable for compensation.
All rights reserved, in particular in the case of patents being awarded or other registrations. We
reserve the right to make technical modifications.
The illustrations and schematic diagrams in this user’s manual show important design details
but are not binding in terms of dimensional accuracy and details.
Our “General terms of sale and delivery“ apply, which are available to the user on conclusion
of the contract.
Warranty and liability claims for personal injury and damage to property are excluded when
they can be traced to one or more of the following causes:
• failure to observe information, regulations and instructions in the user’s manual and
signs on the machine
• operation of the machine without safety devices and/ or with defective safety devices
or incorrectly fitted or non-operational safety and protective devices
• repairs carried out incorrectly, including the use of replacement parts which do not
correspond to the manufacturer’s specifications
IMPORTANT
1.3 Contacts

The user undertakes only to let persons work on the machine who:
• are familiar with the basic regulations on work safety and accident prevention and
who have been instructed in handling the machine.
• have read and understood this user’s manual and in particular the section “Safety
instructions“, the technical safety information and the safety and warning instructions
in the individual sections of this user’s manual.
• have been informed of supplements, updates or revisions of the user’s manual and
have read and understood them.
The persons stated below confirm with their first / repeated signature that they:
• are familiar with the basic regulations on work safety and accident prevention and
have been instructed in handling the machine.
• have read and understood this user’s manual and in particular the section “Safety
instructions“, the technical safety information and the safety and warning instructions
in the individual sections of this user’s manual.
• have been informed of supplements, updates or revisions of the user’s manual and
have read and understood them.
Machining centres without connections to systems (complete machines) are delivered with a
declaration of conformity and the CE-mark according to Appendix V No.1 of the machine
directive.
Unless you have concluded a differently worded written contract with StarragHeckert AG, the
EC-conformity is annulled by any technical modification to the machine, without the agreement
of StarragHeckert AG, and replaced by a manufacturer’s declaration.
The workpiece is to be clamped on the workbench or an additional unit in such a way that
it can absorb the static and dynamic forces generated without displacement during the
production process.
The tool meets the general conditions of the industry. It is clamped in the tool holder of
the main spindle provided for this purpose via a standardised interface.
The user or the operator is familiar with the operation of the whole plant. The complete
contents of the User’s Manual are known and observed.
Any use of the plant which goes beyond this is considered inappropriate. The
manufacturer assumes no liability for all damage resulting from inappropriate use.
Designated use also includes observance of the User’s Manual including all appendices.
Machining centres are intended for cutting metal and cast materials.
Standard versions of machining centres are not suitable for machining magnesium
materials, since these materials require extensive safety measures on the machining.
Cutting off non-chip-shaped workpiece parts of any kind (for example ribs or similar) is
prohibited, as these parts can lead to damage when being removed or when changing
pallets.
Questions concerning inappropriate use, for example as regards other materials, are to
be discussed with the machine manufacturer.
3.1 Foreword
In the course of European unification, the existing national safety regulations and standards
have been supplemented by international regulations for ensuring safety. They became
necessary to eliminate trade restrictions within the Community.
The user’s manual is intended to help facilitate safe handling of the machine and use its
designated application possibilities. It contains information on the safe, proper and economic
operation of the plant. By observing the information you can avoid hazards, reduce repair costs
and downtimes and increase the reliability of the machine.
You will find special information in the sections Operation, Maintenance, Transport, Installation
and Commissioning and the vendor documentation.
In your own interests, please ensure that you understand all safety instructions and observe
them when working with the machines.
WARNING
Example:
Machine systems in the standard variant are not suited for the
machining of magnesium materials, since these materials require
special safety arrangements at the machining center.
The use of such means will make the warranty for the whole
machine system null and void, and any claims for liability will be
refused.
DANGER
CAUTION
The user of the machine is responsible for the supervision of correct observance of the safety
instructions in connection with the machine. We recommend repeating the safety information
for the operators at regular intervals and having this confirmed in writing.
When using the machining centres, the parameters given in the section “Machine
specifications” must be observed.
IMPORTANT
The machine components and their design are intended for the
machining technologies described above.
In order to show that all relevant safety instructions are observed and
the machine corresponds to state-of-the-art technology, the machine
is equipped with a CE-mark.
Only trained personnel who are instructed in safety and may be employed on the machine.
• Transport
• Installation
• Commissioning
• Operation
• Maintenance
• Repair
The service personnel must be specially trained in the commissioning and maintenance
of the motor spindles!
ATTENTION
In your own interests, please ensure that you understand all safety
instructions and observe them when working with the machines! This
applies in particular to persons who work only occasionally on the
machine, for example for troubleshooting, maintenance or cleaning.
All machine parts accessible on foot are fitted with anti-slip plates. Do
not walk on any other parts of the machine!
DANGER
CAUTION
Observe residual risks when carrying out manual tool change on the
tooling station and on the working spindle! The tool must be held tight
when releasing or otherwise secured against falling out of the tool
holder.
Observe the residual risk when operating the machine in the SET-UP
mode when the workroom protection is open. There is a risk of injury
due to rotation the tool and moving machine parts.
In addition to this safety manual, observe the generally valid legal and other binding
regulations concerning accident prevention and environmental protection.
Only emulsifiable cooling lubricants containing mineral oil (with the initials SEM according to
DIN 51385) in the form of an emulsion concentration in water (usable mixture cooling lubricant-
emulsion SEMW according to DIN 51385).
ATTENTION
3.2.4 Signs
The following pictograms or warning signs for safety instructions are used in the user’s manual
and on the machining centres.
It stands for:
• Danger to persons; Danger, Warning, Caution
• Danger to property; Caution
The sign is attached to all areas of the machine in which electrical devices are
situated which involve dangers. Particular care should be taken at these
points.
Laser beam
A prohibitive sign on the chip conveyor prohibits reaching and stepping into
the conveyor.
Direction of rotation
This sign on all electric motors of the machining centre indicates the intended
direction of rotation. This is to be observed for poling purposes.
This sign over the centre of gravity on the machine housing should facilitate
the attachment of the load suspension device.
In connection with the automatic extinguisher, observe in particular the following signs on the
machine:
Firefighting equipment
This sign indicates the danger of explosion which may arise in the case of
magnesium machining.
This sign prohibits the use of naked flames as well as smoking in the interior
of the machine or in the immediate vicinity of the working area. Violation of
this prohibition may set off the fire extinguisher or may lead to the outbreak of
fire if magnesium chips are present.

disconnector switch)!
