This document contains assignments for two different weeks in a Quantum Mechanics II course.
Assignment #02 (Weeks 02-03) includes proving commutation relations for position and momentum operators, calculating angular momentum operators, and proving properties of angular momentum quantum numbers.
Assignment #03 (Weeks 04-05) involves proving commutation relations for generalized angular momentum operators, properties of angular momentum quantum numbers, and relationships between angular momentum eigenstates and eigenvalues. It also includes deriving an expression for spherical harmonic normalization constants.

Assignment #02 (Week 02-03)
1. Prove [x, px] = [y, py] = [z, pz] = iħ
2. Calculate [Ly, L2] and [Lz, L2]. 3. Calculate Lx, Ly, and Lz. 4. Prove that −l m l, where m and l are the quantum numbers corresponding to the eigenvalues of generalized angular momentum operators Lz and L2.
Assignment #03 (Week 04-05)
1. Prove that the angular momentum magnitude and z-component operators can commute and therefore can have simultaneous eigenstates. 2. Considering the definitions discussed in the class for different generalized angular momentum operators, calculate [J2, Jz], [J2, J− ], [J2, J+], [J2, J− ], [Jz , J+], [Jz , J− ], and [J+ , J− ]. 3. Prove that −j m j, where m and j are the quantum numbers corresponding to the eigenvalues of generalized angular momentum operators Jz and J2. Also prove that j can have values 0, 1/2, 1, 2/3, 2 … etc. 4. Considering J2 |, = |, and J3(z) |, = |, prove that a. J+ |, = (−2−ħ)1/2 |, + ħ and J− |, = (−2 +ħ)1/2 |, −ħ. b. 2 , with max = (n/2)ħ, and −min = (−n/2)ħ. 5. Considering the spherical harmonic for l = m, 𝑌𝑙𝑙 (𝜃, 𝜑) = 𝐶𝑙 (sin𝜃)𝑙 𝑒 𝑖𝑙𝜑 , prove that (−1)𝑙 (2𝑙+1)! 𝐶𝑙 = √ . 2𝑙 𝑙! 4𝜋
