Is : 9141-1979 (Indian Standard ) Sr CODE OF PRACTICE FOR PACKAGING OF FASTENERS 0.Foreword 0. This indian Standard was adopted by the Indian Standards Institution on 30 March 1979, after the draft finalized by the Packaging of Engineering Goods Sectional Committee had been approved by the Marine, Cargo Movement and Packaging Division Council. 0.2 The packaging function has to fulfil a variety of objectives including the protection of the contents against transport, handling and storage hazards. Fasteners, particularly, threaded ones, like bolts, nuts, ‘screws and studs, have some special features which must be protected to keep them fit for use at the ultimate destination. 0.3.Packaging has also to be designed in such a way as to ensure the availability of fasteners in packs to meet the general demand. Since the requirement of quantity may vary with the type of customer and the availability of facilities for storage with him, packaging has to meet these variations. 10.4 Some of the standards on fasteners, to which this code of practice applies, are as follow: 1S : 1963-1967 Black hexagon bolts, nuts and lock nuts ( diameter 6 to 39 mm) and black hexagon screws ( diameter 6 to 24 mm )( first revision ) IS : 1964-1967 Prevision and semi— precision hexagon bolts, screws, nuts and lock nuts ( diameter range 6 to 39 mm ) first revision ) IS : 1265-1968 Slotted counter sunk head and slotted raised countersunk head screws (dia range 1.6 to 20 mm ) { second revision ) IS : 19661968 Slotted cheese head screws (dia range 1.6 to 20 mm ) (first revision ) IS : 1862-1975 Studs ( second revision ) IS : 2989—1968 Precision hexagon bolts, screw, nuts and lock nuts ( diameter range 1.6 to 5 mm ) (first revision ) IS : 2585-1968 Black square bolts and nuts ( diameter range 6 to 38mm) and black square screws (diameter range6to24mm)(tirstrevision) IS : 3198-1966 Hexagonal bolts and nuts ( M42 to M150) IS : 6760-1972 Slotted countersunk head wood screws, IS : 6761-1972 Countersunk head screws with hexagon socket IS : 7169-1974 Slotted raised countersunk ( oval ) head tapping screws IS : 7170-1974 Slotted countersunk ( flat ) head tapping screws IS : 717341974 Slotted pan head tapping screws 0.5 In the preparation of this standard, assistance has been derived from MSZ 229113-71 ‘Screws and nuts—Technical requirements—Packaging' issued by the Magyar Szabvanyugyl Hivatal (MSZH ), Hungary, and UNI 3740-74 : Part 9 ‘Steet fasteners—Technical requirements —Packaging’, issued by the Ente Na- zionale Italiano di Unificazione ( UNI , Italy.
