Hello Folks!

I am Kousik Pujala from BA PPA with SAP ID: 500089095. I opted for a university

choice of Social Internship. I was placed in Duayen Foundation (Delhi).

Duration of work: 1st June,2022-31st July,2022

Mentor: Ashish Sharma

Mode of Internship:Virtual

Location: New Delhi

UPES Mentor: Shivani Yadav

Group Leader: Lakshay Chaudhary

Teaching Expectations from the internship:

The internship develops teamwork skills and also a sense of responsibility

towards the society. It actually made us realise the importance and also the

factors which we are continuously neglecting in the society. It also helps in the

upliftment of the communities which were backwards in the society. The

internship will provide me the necessity qualities which can be later used in the

future professional sphere. It also helps me to understand the society in a

detailed way and also in a broad spectrum. It also helps me to understand the

minute changes which can be brought in the society for a huge impact.

About the Internship:

Way for life was a registered NGO , which is based in Bangalore,

Karnataka(India). It was founded in the year 2017. It was started by a group of

three which later was expanded vastly to their current stage. The NGO was

started by students who aimed for the development and upliftment of the

marginalised groups of the society. The key issues they focused on were

Education and Literacy, Environment and Forests, Youth Affairs. They were

currently operating in seven cities namely: Bangalore, Chennai, Coimbatore,

Hyderabad, Delhi, Pune and Mumbai. The network of the NGO was expanding

that many people were getting benefitted from their programmes. Way for Life
through its 200+ events and recurring activities in the past few years, had

strived to take actions that result in long-lasting positive changes to whoever

the beneficiaries may have been and whatever the issues that they have

attempted to placate. The spark for the idea of Way for Life came about after

three like-minded classmates were exposed and eventually astonished by the

massive differences between the students of a underprivileged sect who

studied in government school and students of private institutes. They observed

the lack of basic facilities in the governmental institutions which had huge

impact on the founders. Way for life was started off in 2017 with few local

retailers in Banglore. By instilling a greater efficiency in the transference and

exchange of knowledge and improving the infrastructure in government

schools, Way for Life is confident that these small steps will make a student-

hood a learning experience and not simply a test of one’s memory. The activities

have not been restricted to the field of education alone with expanding base

and functioning in 7 cities across India and also 6000+ voluntary body it started

to function in various other fields such as environmental, social etc. to mend

themselves to changing scenarios in the country. They started to work in fields which are mostly
neglected in the communities

The main vision of the NGO is continued, sustained upliftment in the lives of the

people for whom they work through collaborative efforts and ideas of people

who work for a positive change in the society.

The main mission was to have improved independent societies and to bring

changes in most of the communities which were neglected by the society

through collective action and activity

The NGO is working for development in SDGs

4-Quality Education

13-Climate Action

Not only it focuses on these but it also works towards other social problems

which are existing in the society.

They work for the development of education in the governmental institutes.

They actually worked with various sponsors to achieve this. They believed that

infrastructure of schools need to be improved especially of the government

institutes . One of their flash projects was Government School Development .

The project started with rigorous research conducted by their volunteers who

inspect the condition in government schools, and report their adequacies and

eventually give all the possible outcomes which can be undertaken to improve

those conditions. Painting and decorating the classrooms, constructing proper

lavatories, tables and benches, providing drinking-water supply, supplying

boards and charts which aid the task of teaching are not the only activities

which we perform through this project.

Another project is building of reading space in shelter homes. These ‘Reading

Spaces’ are equipped with libraries filled with books which cater to the

children’s interests and unanswered questions. The reading spaces were

painted by the volunteers with numbers and learning tips which had positive

impact on the children.

Other initiatives include planting trees, flood relief, shelter home visits, cleaning

lake, cleaning public spaces etc. My NGO mentor was Mr.Uday Kumar and

group leader was Sri Lakshay Chaudhary.

My work at the NGO:

I started interning as a data management member. I was allotted to work and

collect the details of various CSR companies. The main aim of the work is to

find more collaborations for the NGO to work with. The NGO directed us to

collect the details such as the name of the corporate company, CSR wing point

of contact, their phone number, email ID, nature of their CSR activities, Recent

CSR activities and also their LinkedIn details. I started to work on this activity. I

googled all the companies which are majorly contributing in the CSR activities.

I found out about the following companies details:

Toyota Kirloskar- Kritika Vishan-head of CSR

Exide Industries ltd. -NIshant Sinha-head CSR

UPL Limited- Rishi Pathania-CSR head

NTPC limited- Sukla Bandopadhyay-CSR officer

Ambuja Cement-Debapriya Ghosh-CSR Manager

Mindtree Limited- Deepak Prabhu Matti-CSR head

Bosch Global Software Technologies-Shilpa Deodhar-CSR head

My experience and Learnings:

The internship provided me with the development of team work and also the

work space adaptability. It actually gave me a brief of how a work space

actually looks like. Even though it was a virtual Internship I enjoyed my role as

an intern. The NGO mainly worked towards the development of the lower

sections of the society. It mainly focused on the development of the overall

growth of the people belonging to the down sections of the society. It also

worked towards the sustainability of nature through cleaning of beaches, lakes

roads etc. It also worked for the education of the students of the downtrodden

society.I actually learned about the various problems which are faced by the

people in the real society. It gave me an overview of the real world. As an

aspirant of UPSC I believe this internship gave me a new sphere of world. It also

helps in my Academic activity . I enjoyed the internship overall and I extend my

special thanks to my University and also the NGO for the Great opportunity.
