Job Title: Engineering Team Lead

in Africa.

We empower small business owners and consumers by enabling them to turn the data they
generate into a validated Trust Score. We are building a Marketplace where (M)SMEs and
individuals gain access to the best lending products at preferential rates as a reward for
trusting Kamoa with their data.

For established lenders with profitable models in their markets, we offer a seamless route to
digital acquisition and a powerful tool to enhance credit decisioning.

We are seeking a Team Lead to strengthen and build out our Engineering Team and power
our mission further.

Reporting To: Founder and CEO

Key Responsibilities:

As the Team Lead, this individual will be responsible for:


● Building the Engineering team (hiring, onboarding, setting technical and behavioural
standards)
● Working alongside the CPO and the Chief Data Scientist the Team Lead will design
and run best practice processes to ensure velocity of product delivery and revenue
growth.
● Playing an instrumental role leading the engineering team, ensuring the suitability of
our codebase, whether for MVPs or mission-critical services.
● Identifying and championing improvements within our systems, contributing to an
engineering backlog for major initiatives required to keep our product on the cutting
edge.
● Collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams (Product, Design, Data Science,
etc.) to define and implement solutions, from building prototypes to conducting in-
depth research.
● Serving as a key member of the delivery team, helping to shape immediate goals and
ensuring reliable delivery against them.
● Representing the company in interactions with external firms, reviewing their
software offerings (APIs etc.), and advocating for our tech stack with investors.
● Assisting in the recruitment and training of all new staff in Product and Data Science,
hence contributing to the company's growth.
● Approximate time split: 60% coding / 20% meetings / 15% mentoring / 5%
advocating, presenting.

Objectives:

● Consistently drive team improvement, reliability, and value delivery with each sprint.
● Adopt an owner's mindset towards the codebase, taking pride in its efficiency, quality,
and robustness.
● Develop and maintain an engineering roadmap, leading its monthly reviews.
● Cultivate an enthusiastic work environment.
● Proactively address any issues as they arise with that team and with the other
executives.

Technical Competencies:

● Extensive experience in JavaScript, including in-depth knowledge of asynchronous


programming, TypeScript, closures, and ES6.
● Proficiency in NodeJS and React development (Web/Native).
● Proficiency in both relational and schema-less databases.
● Strong emphasis on continuous integration, delivery, and testing (experience with the
latest tooling preferred).
● Hands-on experience with cloud platforms, in depth experience of AWS Web
Services.
● Proficient in the design and implementation of serverless architecture.
● Track record of building high-performance, scalable applications.
● Proven ability to build and maintain the backend aspects of our CI/CD pipeline.
● Comprehensive understanding of application security, authentication, and related
cryptography.
● Familiar with performance monitoring tools and can calmly manage production
issues.
